I decided to stop going to this hair salon after I found out that Jessica was a racist. Now for those of you who don't care about racism or those of you who are just going to roll your eyes and assume that I'm just a disgruntled customer, feel free to stop reading. Before I go into detail, let me suggest several alternate hair salons that are super nearby and provide better service. The first is Rebecca's hair salon, which is literally just two minutes up the road (located next to the deli adjacent to the Freshtown plaza). Rebecca is super friendly, has an assistant that is equally talented, and does everything at a reasonable price. The second option I would suggest is Hair By Jennifer Hetherington (8 Heathcote Ln, here in Amenia). This place is also reasonably priced, more skilled, and open 7 days a week! Now, let me continue. I am white. My mom, however, is brown and has an accent that is a clear indication to others that she is not from this country. The two times I had a haircut with Jessica, my mom was not present. Later, I learned from my mom that Jessica was super rude to her on three different occasions. The first two times was when Jessica used to work at a different hair salon in the area, before she had her own hair salon. She reluctantly did my mom's hair but was very rude and short with her. The third time was at this location. My mom walked in through the door and before she even had the chance to say hello, Jessica yelled at her and said she had no appointments available and shooed her away. My mom has no reason to invent this story and neither do I. It is especially painful to have go through this, given our country's current political state. Needless to say, if you truly care about this issue, stop doing business with this person. Everything counts as a victory. We can never truly get rid of racists in our country, but we can at least teach them that open bigotry will not be tolerated. As I mentioned earlier, there are many alternate places that are nearby that provide better service. P.S. iViva México!
