NYC Surfing provides surf lessons and rentals in the Rockaway area. The instructor is consistently described as supportive, motivating, patient, and passionate. He is always on time, quick to respond, and well-organized. Sessions are reasonably priced and often feel longer than paid for, with no sense of being rushed. The primary goal is to get students surfing and catching waves, not just taking classes. Instruction is easy to digest, practical, and focuses on moving from beginner to intermediate. It includes clear explanations of surfing technique, complemented by plenty of tips and tricks for an easier and more enjoyable time in the water. Gentle, technical feedback is provided on what to work on and how to navigate the lineup. All necessary gear is provided, including board, wetsuit, boots, and sunscreen, and is reported to be good. Storage for personal items is also available. The experience is consistently recommended as fun and amazing, worth traveling for, and suitable for both first-timers and those new to surfing Rockaway. Rentals are also available on-site.
Had so much fun taking a lesson with NYC Surfing! We covered the basics and once in the water, I learned to adapt to the fast pop-up waves that were rolling in that day. Highly recommend it if you’re new to surfing or new to surfing Rockaway.
