I was working out here today when another member collapsed in the locker room from the heat. They had to be taken to the ER. This is not the first time I’ve heard about people feeling dizzy here — the air is so hot and stale it feels dangerous. The manager, Adriana, brushed it off just like she always does, blaming the HVAC. This isn’t just uncomfortable anymore, it’s a health risk.

I’ve been to a lot of gyms in my life, but I have never experienced anything this dangerous. Today I passed out in the locker room from the extreme heat and lack of ventilation. I had to be taken to the ER for evaluation. The air here is hot, heavy, and completely stagnant you can feel it the moment you walk in. Members have been complaining for years, and the manager, Adriana, just blames the HVAC and does nothing. This is a serious health hazard. If I had been alone, this could have ended much worse. I will be contacting corporate directly and considering legal options. No one should be risking their health at a gym.

First time trying this location and I walked out halfway through. The heat and humidity were unbearable. My clothes were soaked just from standing on the treadmill. The manager, Adriana, seemed completely unfazed by the complaints apparently this has been “an issue for years.” I won’t be back.

I work out at Planet Fitness all over the country when I travel, and this is by far the worst one I’ve stepped into. The air is thick and stagnant, like it hasn’t been circulated in weeks. I asked the manager (Adriana) if something was broken, and she told me it’s “just the HVAC” and nothing can be done. That’s not how other PFs operate, this is clearly poor management.

Active theft happening at this gym with personal belongings of others. Pay a little more and go to a safer gym.

Why is the AC not working? There's a heat wave and the fact the cardio room is hot doesn't help.

I transferred to this Planet Fitness after moving to Astoria from Bay Shore at the beginning of May, and my experience at the Astoria location could not have been worse. I could honestly have given 1 stars for the broken equipment and extreme heat, but that's not why I'm leaving this review. I'm leaving a 1 star review because Planet Fitness charged me a late fee for no reason, and the manager, Adriana, could not have been bothered to call me back once despite me leaving several complaints for the workers to document.
After my first or second week there, the PF app popped up a screen that my bank account disconnected from the app. I never got an email about this from PF. But I explained the situation to the worker, re-did my bank account details (even though no bank account details changed on my end). A few days later, the PF app notifies me that I'm late on my payment specifically because of this bank disconnection and that I'll be charged a late fee. I manually pay my $15 membership fee via credit card in person on May 18th. The next week, I have to explain the situation to each worker why my app won't let me scan in. They documented this complaint, with the latest being May 24th. I was told several times that the manager Adriana would contact me, and not once did she ever each out.
After trying to re-enter my bank account a 4th time on the app, this time it seemed to have finally connected. As soon as this happens, I get charged a $20 late fee on June 6th. I tell this to the front desk workers, and yet I still hear nothing from management.
June 22nd, on a Sunday, I finally ran into the assistant manager whose name escaped me. Finally thinking I was going to have this resolved, she promised me that she would call me back after speaking to the manager Adriana on Monday, June 23rd. Again nothing.
After this, I had no choice but to cancel. The lack of respect from the management at this business is appalling.
I would like to shoutout Brian and Claire, who were the front desk workers I spoke to most of the time. They were incredible and very understanding. I completely got this was not their issue and they did not have the authority to change anything. Honestly, I don't understand why they are not in management positions here.
If anyone asks me whether they should join this gym, I will tell them to run as far away as possible.

This location has been a big letdown. A lot of the equipment feels outdated, several treadmills are out of order, and they’re rarely clean. Worst of all, the air conditioning doesn’t work. How do you run a gym without proper ventilation or cooling? It’s constantly crowded, so it’s hard to believe they can’t invest in fixing the HVAC system. The staff is friendly but clearly frustrated too. They’ve even said they’ve suggested to the owner multiple times to replace the AC after numerous failed repairs. At this point, it’s just unbearable.

No AC downstairs and super humid. Disgusting and de-motivating.
Update in response to reply: Management and staff have been notified. Someone just needs to buy industrial sized air movers and keep them on downstairs while the AC situation is resolved.

Be careful, here they steal from you. I signed up my daughter on May 30, I pay for the month. She has been in this place for a month and they still charge us twice for the year. I already made the claim at the gym and they don't give me an explanation.

Machines tend to be broken…for a while. Not the cleanest. Front desk staff is pleasant. For the price I guess it’s OK?
