I live in Beacon and have visited this bookstore numerous times. I love books, love bookstores, and really dislike this one. I want to like it and have given it many chances, including during the week and on the weekend, but I have only once had an ok experience here, when one of the owners' moms was working. Every time I go in here, I feel like the proprietors would really rather I'd not come in. I find a them a combination of patronizing, disinterested, and lacking breadth of knowledge. The book selection feels like someone's leftover college books combined with a few expensive new titles from an online progressive "must-read" list. I like to browse and they have never once been able to help me find a book that fits my tastes. Given that the pleasure of finding a new book that fits is one of the main reasons to shop in person, I have finally given up on this store. These days, I drive to 10 minutes to Split Rock Books in Cold Spring, when I experience the complete opposite of Binnacle Books--good customer service, excellent selection, and knowledgeable staff. What a relief.

Small independent bookstore with primarily used books. We made the mistake of going during a street fair in Beacon so it was overcrowded. Need to go back at a normal time to give it a fair chance. Worth a stop in you are in town. I have a feeling the eclectic collection could reveal some gems if you have time to look.

Rude cashier. I showed them the price of my book, and they stated ‘I know how to do my job.’ The ‘have a nice day’ attached at the end shows your entitlement and main character syndrome. Keep showing your customers up and they won’t show up.

Lots of great new and used books. Very small and cramped. Books everywhere. Parking on the street. Lots of restaurants nearby also.

Stopped by on a rainy day. Was a nice cozy little bookstore to browse and get out of the rain. It's a SMALL place so can get packed in a hurry. Outside is a shelf for books on a budget and they have a good share cupboard slaps located outside, which I thought was a fantastic idea.

Fantastic independent book store in Beacon. Small but well curated selection of new books but amazing selection of used books. Significant focus on politics, history and sociology. Many poetry books that you don't see elsewhere. Science fiction section is really excellent. Very good selection of used childrens books too. A Hudson Valley gem.

One of the best poetry selections in the area. The over all collection here is well curated.

All hail Binnacle Books. Creaky floorboards, intimate space, very-well curated shelves, very friendly staff, community involvement - in short everything you could want from a bookstore. Their used books are in excellent condition and unlike in many other used book shops, very easy to find! An easy place to bankrupt yourself. Highly, highly recommended.

Employee was extremely rude ! I made a compliment to my niece regarding the store about its good vibe and how nice it would be to work in an environment like that. Somehow she took that as a personal insult, telling me that she doesn’t sit around all day doing nothing. Not at all what I was implying! The funny thing is she was sitting behind the counter reading a book, doing nothing. Not even a friendly greeting as we walked in. Well, that was my first and last time I’ll be there. Such a shame how one person can ruin an entire experience.

What a great indie bookstore! you can tell the owner and staff are thoughtful about the books they choose to stock, and how the store is laid out. you could spend a long time looking through their shelves. especially appreciated their prison book project which sends books to local prisons--a good deed in these hard times. we will be back!
