Apartment building in downtown Brooklyn. Very helpful and friendly staff.

The building staff here are all wonderful. I'm probably going to botch some of the name's spelling here, but everyone has been warm, welcoming, and super helpful in our time at 80 Dekalb - From Sam, Lumi, Franklin at the front desk to Sammy, Alan, Himzo, Haxji, JC, and Garfield with the building maintenance, to Tim and his team in the office, to the package room team; they are all extremely polite, professional, and super helpful. I even had a completely shot battery in my car one evening, couldn't even be jumped, and as Haxji was getting ready to end his shift he offered me a ride to autozone and even helped me install it...I don't know any Landlord team that I've experienced in my years in NYC that would have done this...As for construction noise in some of the reviews below, I have to say....you're in NYC! I feel like there's always construction in NYC, and especially Brooklyn nowadays. One thing we've learned about NYC when we moved here many years ago is you will never have everything you want in a place. You have to weigh the pros and cons, and if some construction noise during the day time is what you absolutely hate then maybe Brooklyn in this area isn't for you. I am just reviewing the building and staff experience here that my wife and I have had, and it's been a great experience. I feel like that's what these reviews should be; not something that is out of the control of the building's hands, such as when and what construction projects happen in the area surrounding the area...

The doormen and mail staff are amazing. Management is terrible, unresponsive, and unethical. I have been waiting for my security deposit to be returned for going on 7 weeks now (the NYC law requires within 2). I've been given excuses, gaslit, and blamed for the delay. Management is showing no sense of responsibility or understanding why such a large amount of money could be important. I'm shocked at their behavior; this is my third lease in NYC and have NEVER had an issue this severe with this much money.

UPDATE: Demolition work in front of the building is over! A new construction site on Ashland Pl soon replaced it. As a bonus - ongoing asbestos removal project on LIC campus. Shoddy construction in the apartments ensures you get to enjoy every last drill sound from the area. The construction noise (weekdays, starting at 7am, till 5pm; also on Saturday) is unbearable. The are two sites - one in front, and one at the back. Between the two, every apartment feels like it is in a middle of a construction site. Which it is.WFH is virtually impossible. Enjoying a weekend is also limited.Management did not attempt to address this in a meaningful way. This is par for the course in NYC. The owner is a private equity firm, KKR, so no surprises there. Therefore, let this be a warning for potential tenants - think hard before signing on here, even at 2 months off the ridiculous list price.

Do not live here for the next five years (or more). The building does not dampen sound well at all so all of the hustle and bustle out on the street is audible to anyone in the building. There is construction (or demolition) behind the building, in front of the building, and on both sides of the building. Jackhammering and banging start at 7AM, arrival of workers and trucks making tons of noise starts even before that. Additionally there are frequent sirens due to being located near a hospital. You will wake up to shockingly loud noise every day. Management is completely unresponsive to any of these concerns. There has been no communication with tenants about any of this. Pleas and questions on their app go ignored unless it's something they've directly screwed up (like the scaffolding ropes banging into the side of the building, waking tenants up multiple different times). The windows of this building have not been washed in over five years. Stay away - this is a textbook example of a building that does not care about its tenants.

Loved living in this building until I had to move out. For the longest time, their leasing agent was over worked and back logged with weeks of work. She quit in the middle of handling my lease transfer and return of my security deposit and back rent (she offered to handle for me and my subletter). The new management wouldn’t honor my agreement with the former leasing agent and it led to a 8 month battle for $3000. During which, the management group fabricated documents that I didn’t sign and tried to bully me into forfeiting my deposit. For additional context: When I took over a lease from a former tenant, the leasing agent also acted as intermediary and obtained deposit from me instead of making the two tenants handle the money transfer, so there’s precedence here for lease transfers in this building. If it weren’t for the fact that I found a cool person to take over my lease, I’d be out $3000, even after threatening to take them to small claims court. (The subletter helped me get my deposit back when she left and returned the money to me.)So much hassle, stress, and poooooor accounting and file management — you cannot get copies of anything, so many sure you keep your own. Take photos of every piece of paper related to your tenancy (every lease, every check) and take before and after photos of every part of the apartment. Leave nothing to chance with this group. Once you leave the building, they will have magically lost all of it.The doormen, valets, and maintenance team in this building is incredibly cool and sweet. The management office team is awful though. I hear they changed management groups again on top of it all. Good luck to all the tenants in this building.Oh yes and if you live on the south side of the building, I’m sorry. The sounds of jackhammers and pounding metal is awful and can really drive you mad. Can confirm what the other person said. Starts at 7am and ends at 4 or 5pm.

Big fan of the staff. They go above and beyond to resolve issues and are the nicest in general, bar none. However, it's been a nightmare trying to get a hold of the new management team that took over in July '22. Can't make sense of the new app, the itemized rent statement I received is incorrect, and they haven't responded to any of my calls, e-mails, VMs over the last several days. Hoping a public-facing review might inspire them to action.

This is a nice building but do not get tricked into paying for the amenities/lounge/gym area. They do not turn the AC on even in 95+ degree weather. And until the end heat season(May 31st) they have the heat blasting in there as well. Unless you like working out in a literal sauna.

I absolutely hate living here. They won't let us post anything to the community board that is in any way critical, which means residents can't discuss anything together. If anyone else in the building sees this and wants to chat about everything that's going wrong, join the WhatsApp group If you can't select the link, then on iPhone taking a snapshot will let you select the text. There are many, many issues, from how my apartment completely flooded a few months ago (nothing done to make up for it), to the ongoing construction sounds literally all night every night, due to the enormous construction site next door. I've heard leasing agents flatly lie to prospective new tenants about the noise. I've been on the phone with staff when we were both in the building, as crane-sized jackhammers were banging at the foundation, and they just kept telling me they couldn't hear anything, ever, all day long. Quiet, peaceful alternate universe. I hate this place. The management do not care about residents at all. Posting this will probably get me into serious trouble. But I'm so frustrated.

Terrible experience touring the apartment. We really fell in love with one unit we viewed and wanted to sign right away. They emailed us the application link shortly after our tour. We couldn’t see the apartment unit listed. Matter fact, I didn’t see any of the apartments that they showed us listed for availability. We emailed them multiple times ... even calling their office. They never got back to us. Then finally we were able to get a hold of them in which we found out the the units we viewed were all unavailable. So basically, they showed us unavailable apartments and gave our hopes up. They didn’t even apologize. What a waste of time.

Don’t mean to dis the place but have to warn you responsibly.1. FALLING ICE.Something hard falling from a 30+ story building is not kidding. Poor design...2. CONSTRUCTION NOISE.If you plan to move to this building, the construction next door will train you to a morning person by hammering and even shaking you up around 7am. And the noise will last during the hours that you work from home, making your conference calls even harder. The management of the building says the site has city permit to do that, and there’s not much they can do because that’s not their property. FYI, the new giant building under construction won’t be completed in years.. This is just the start

have lived here for 2 years in a 1bedroom. this place is really good for the size and price:1. as a light sleeper, i appreciate the voice isolation quality the most here. i was talking to a neighbor the other day: you dont hear a thing in the apartment. the walls and doors are solid and strong.2. the handy men are so awesome and nice. they always respond to our tickets within 24 hours. the front desk gentlemen and all other staff are very friendly.3. nice in person yoga classes before the pandemic started and the gym room is spacious.4. a few elevator issues, 1 of the 4 was down for maybe 5-6 times in the past 2 years, but not too bad. other than that never had infrastructure problems5. for 3 or 5 days there was no gas last year and management team did their best to fix it - daily email updates, free dinner at lounge and partial refund of the rents6. most importantly - NO PEST ISSUE. you know how the city is and i am so happy i dont have to live with bugs or any pests anymore
