Service going downhill. Bought pre-package cheese from the deli the other night. Just had one slice, it was funky, so I wrapped it up and refrigerated it before returning the next day.
First thing, person at the service desk looked very unhappy and was very rude. Apparently takes the 24 hour perishable food return window very seriously, as it was 30 hours later.
She called over the deli person to consult. He was super nice, I want to give credit to that. He affirmed that this is just how the cheese is. No return accepted, I just had to toss it.
I have been going to this c town and the havemeyer street location for or over a decade. Each year alone, as my primary grocery store, I spent at least a couple thousand dollars. I don't even use Instacart when it's raining because I don't want that to cut out of their margin so I go in person. This is the first time I have ever gone to return anything. I can't believe this is how they treat a long-term customer.
I work in restaurants and no too well how one single bad experience, even for loyal guests, can turn people away. In this neighborhood, grocery stores are popping up on nearly every block. I would think now more than ever would be a time to differentiate by providing superior service when other corporate locations are giving about as Mundane an experience.

Good selection and reasonable prices, but very confusing layout.

Regularly allows their delivery trucks to block the crosswalk.
Produce goes bad quickly and some stuff on shelves is already expired. Ice cream often has freezer burn.
I would never do my normal grocery shop here, and never buy produce or anything perishable. As others have noted, things seem to go off very quickly.

I have been going to this market since 1998. When it was really a dump. Ok so now its cleaner and more products but.... The coldest night 1/4/2016 in many many months and they decide to close early!!! Really??? I got there 10 minutes before closing and told them I only needed two things but they would not let me in. Really? I have been in retail in NYC for 25 years and never ever worked or owned a shop where that would be acceptable. Ctown what the hell???

I swiped my gift card here on a Sunday and paid by the exit with only 2 cashiers, and they stole my card information, watch out people. Lock your card after use if you go there or check the machine before swiping.

Every time I go here, one or more items aren't in their database and it takes so long for them to verify the price. I've just stopped going.

Way too overpriced. A lot of the same stuff is way cheaper at Foodtown literally right next door. No idea why they mark things up so much, but I stopped buying anything here.

I bought a Tuscan half and half quart here on 4/4, expiration 4/26. I opened it on 4/7 and it was absolutely rancid—sour chunky and stinky. I came on here to see if anyone experienced something similar and lo-and-behold, the literal first review is a moldy disgusting Tuscan half and half. I called and the lady who barely answered the phone with a grunt just said “bring in the receipt” and hung up. This store sucks.

How much could one banana cost? 89 cents?

For an NYC supermarket its not terrible. They often have expired foods on the shelves and the produce is often not as nice as I'd like. The cashiers don't bag groceries and often rush you along. High prices that I guess I'll pay because Trader Joe's is far and Foodtown's prices are even higher.

Many many products don’t have the price, at a minimum they should have machines to check prices

Arrived 10 minutes before closing. Doors were locked, guy inside saw me, glares, and walks away into the store without a word. I get that they want to start closing up but I thought that was unnecessarily rude.
