I went to purchase food at the restaurant next door and ask the gentlemen whether they sold the tea and their tea station. He informed me that they purchased their tea right next door! I was so excited to be able to get this tea easily! When I entered the space, the beautiful scents welcomed me in. So many spices, herbs, snacks, pastries, and small grocery items were available for purchase. Oh, the teas, luxe and plentiful, stored in large glass jars. There were two older gentlemen inside with kind smiles. One was busily packing an order, and the other helped me select all the items I needed to make the perfect pot of Yemeni tea. I'm so glad I learned about this place, I'm sure I'll get things to create things from my childhood.

Best prices on bulk spices, nuts (Syrian pistachios are awesome), and dried fruits in the whole of north Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, think Turkish figs, many kinds of dates, and superfood dried mulberries. Get your tahini, great honey and labneh here, too, along with inlaid wood objects, musical instruments and other handmade works you would find in a Syrian or East Jerusalem souk. Also can learn something about Aramaic from this 100+ year old local family import dynasty.

Went in knowing what I wanted, the owner is friendly and excited to share his culture and knowledge. There are cats here, I personally love cats, but for those of you who may have allergies it's an FYI. Will certainly be back!

My Syrian grandfather passed away, but coming here was just like connecting with him again! It was so nice to talk to the two brothers, who were thrilled I had a “Ghiddo” and knew about the Aramaic language. We got a gorgeous Damascene vintage box, and they made sure I left with the best one, going in their front window with tongs to help me out. We also got dry goods and preserves that remind me of my grandfather! Oh, and there are two cute and healthy cats.

Edit: Place is still open. Same friendly person. Same friendly cats. Will go back for treats and spices. Old review: Unsure why this place is listed as closed unless it happened this week (Will check.) If that's the case I'm quite sad as I prefer this heavily over Oriental a few doors down. Very friendly guy with a friendly cat to boot. Tasty fresh pastries. Would go more if Damascus wasn't across the street but they're open at times Damascus is not)

I was originally going to Trader Joe's for some spices (cumin, paprika, curry, etc) when my friend suggested that I come here instead. She gets her spices here and puts them in little spice containers. I was initially hesitant because it would be extra work, but I thought there was no harm in checking it out. OMG. I am so, so glad I came. The owners are really friendly and helpful. I ended up getting cinnamon sticks, paprika, curry powder, and za'atar. The spices are incredibly fresh, fragrant, and crazy inexpensive. I have no idea how that works because they're SO amazing. I only wish I had gotten more spices from here; I didn't think I needed to replace my whole spice stock but I do now that I've used some. It makes a world of difference in my food. Can't wait to come back to NYC so I can frequent this amazing store :)
