McCarren Park is a centrally located park in Williamsburg, close to shopping and restaurants. It is a great park with a great atmosphere, offering a list of things to utilize. These include a turf field for football and other sports, an open air gym with body weight machines, two handball courts, and a track. The track is nice and provides a place to walk or run without city distractions, alongside inspiring views of the NYC skyline. There are also water fountains, benches, and places to relax as well as a BBQ area. The picnic area is nice. A kids park, restrooms, and a state park are across the street by McCarren Pool. The park is great to run, play soccer, baseball, or tennis, and to have a picnic. It is dog-friendly. However, maintenance is inconsistent. While described as very well maintained at one point, it has also been in terrible shape with overflowing trash cans, garbage strewn throughout, and overgrown grass and weeds. The playground is small and close to the BBQ area. Reviews of the toilets range from dirty and stinky to not too bad. While in definite need of some TLC, the park retains a unique charm.
