Great gym & memeber. Female staff straight up suck. They rude, unhelpful, and act as if your asking the most of them when they playing on cell phones at the front desk. Just dont need anything from the front.....you'll be straight.Retro - church

Rude front guest. no staff for the amenities it’s supposed to provide as per the website( Smoothies, classes,). Its a waste of time and space. Broken equipment, messy work room with weights all over the space is the furthest from orderly. If you want a smoothie, be prepared to wait 30 minutes til the front desk agent acknowledges you and then makes it wrong with an attitude because of understaffing. Once again a real waste of time. If you want the police called on you for a tour of the space have a good time.

Retro Church Ave, has been my gym home for the past 4 years, and I have nothing but good things to say about the gym. The staff is friendly, helpful and even begin to remember your name after a while. I’ve seen the facilities make major upgrades, let me tell you it’s a great improvement of what already existed. If you get a smoothie ask for Tamika to make it, hers are the best specifically the mocha peanut butter… it hits different.

Long Story Short: With all the Gym options in Brooklyn, it's not financially worth it or (in my experience) safe to go here. There are pro's to this place thought they are short, and easily listable. It is relatively clean, the machines work MOST of the time, and the hours are reasonable. The cons are many. The staff is inattentive and unaccommodating. And even if you use this Gym, I strongly urge you to not interact with their personal trainers. A DIRECT outcome of my fitness assessment was a five day hospital stay with Rhabdomyolysis. The gym refused to refund me my membership money. There are so many fitness options in the city, go somewhere else.

It was a rough workout but it was worth it, I ran upon the treadmill then Mike wanted me to try on stepping version treadmill and I quit on that one but Mike and I did weight training and I felt pumped up and I would recommend everyone to workout from a healthy perspective

This is my second time back at this gym so far so good not crowded which I like ??. I don’t like the water fountain it’s a pain in the ? lol ?. I’m still trying to get use the app and I registering for the classes. The spinning class is my favorite and I have seen results. Hopefully I don’t make any of the staff including the manager mad or uncomfortable when asking questions I just want to register for the classes at the time I have to. Again once I get use to the app I will feel at ease and not scared to ask a question I’m a worrier. Retro is a good gym and easy to get to with the Q and B train. Looking forward to meeting my goal in my fitness.

Well maintained and spacious, with everything on one floor. For a basic gym with all the equipment, this is the best.

I stayed in new york for around one month and i joined retro fitness. It was made clear to me at the front desk that i would be only paying for one month and no other charges would be added to my billing as i was only getting a one month no tie membership that has no annual fees and no added charges just a one time payment.Having left new york in june they have been charging my card every month.I dint notice it at first but after a few months i had no other option but to block my card as the gym is not responding to me in any way.Its a shame that i came to US as a medical intern with high hopes regarding ethics and empathy in the system but so far i have been disheartened and disappointed by the blatant and fraudulent attitude of such a big gym chain.

Great gym, awesome facilities. One thing I’d love is round olympic plates to make deadlifts safer. With the plates you have right now, because they’re not round they j*** in a random direction when they hit the floor. Other than affecting form, someone could get seriously hurt deadlifting with these plates!

Childcare Gym - This isn't promoted enough! I've passed on them for years but this feature seals it for me.The manager Ben is very approachable & helpful. He sets the tone for his team to create an environment on par with Retro's culture. I recently signed up with JJ! He has the most genuine spirit, great customer service and will point you in the right direction every time. Even though he isn't involved with my training directly he helps me stay on track with tips & trick. Ask for JJ!
