My wife and I had struggled to find a wedding band (in stores or online) until we happened on Specific Gravity while walking around the neighborhood. We saw a design that intrigued us; the jeweler Erin was extremely easy to work with and honest about what to expect for a bespoke version, and the ring was created in a timely fashion. The shop also had a lot of other interesting collectables so I'm sure we'll be returning at some point in the future. Thank you!

Arnold is great, after I found a ring that could serve as a keeper ring for my wedding ring, he worked with me to have the artist customize the ring. Came out amazing. A great place featuring local jewelry artisans.

Fantastic shop - everything is lovely. We found a perfect casual chunky, textured ring for a gift, and there were plenty of options. All the better that everything comes from individual local/regional artists! Fully recommended.

I have two gorgeous necklaces from Specific Gravity- the design and elegance of these original pieces is unmatched. The store has something for everyone's varied tastes. The customer service is beyond expectation; I recently had a necklace clasp replaced and a multi diamond ring restored. I was confident in handing over my items and highly impressed with the personal attention given to me and my needs. This store is very reasonable in its charges and the turn around time in repairs was faster than I expected. I would highly recommend them. You will not get a better quality experience. It's classy, original, and has top notch service and personalized attention to customers. The range of jewelry and artistry is something I have not seen in my 23 years of living in NYC.

The staff here is extremely sweet and helpful but unfortunately I purchased two necklaces from different designers and both clasps snapped within a week, then last week I purchased a beautiful stud earring for $200 but the sales associate let me know it had a silicone backing which of course is unconventional and of course the earring promptly fell out without my notice. I love to support local artists I just wish the quality of work was held to a higher standard.

I've been shopping at Specific Gravity since they opened a few years ago- the first high-end jewelry shop on Vanderbilt. The jewelry is incredible- unique, well made, and things you won't find in a typical jewelry store. They have a range of price points which means that on any given visit you can find new items perfect for gifts, special occasions, or rewards for yourself. The proprietors are deeply knowledgeable about the jewelry and the makers behind the work. The shop is elegant. All around a great place to visit.

I love Specific Gravity. All jewelry is made by local talent and feels personal and can be customized. The salesperson (maybe one of the artists) was patient and shared information about how each peice of jewelry was made. I will go back to see the new and exciting jewelry that arrives monthly. Brooklyn is so fortunate to have this community based jewelry store (not everything is jewelry but all is handmade locally)..

Some nice jewelry, but incredibly rude and unhelpful service. My husband bought me a pair of beautiful glass earrings here, and after trying them on, I noticed what appeared to be a design flaw in the posts (at least for my ears). I love the earrings, and wanted to see if there was a way the artist could fix the posts for me, so we went to the store to discuss it. I left my earrings there, and was told they would get in touch with the artist, and email me with various options for a change or possible removal of the posts. (Due to the delicate nature of the earrings, the woman we spoke with said she wasn't sure what could be done with the glass, so it was definitely a good idea to speak with the artist first rather than just bringing them to a regular jeweler). I waited 2 weeks, and no response. I emailed, and explained the situation, and said I never heard back from anyone, and that I would just come pick the earrings up. The email response gave me store hours to pick them up, but no apology or explanation of why the artist was never contacted on my behalf. I got the earrings back, then emailed to ask for the artist's name and contact info so I could get in touch with them myself, and received a very rude response about just taking them to any jeweler to be repaired. I again asked for the artist's info, and received no response at all. It's amazing that they are refusing to give out simple information that would be helpful to a customer. I do not recommend this store - use their artists page, and contact the artists directly on instagram or their personal website to inquire about purchasing. The customer service here is non-existent.

An amazing store! Beautifully curated and laid out, featuring pieces from local jewelry artists and object makers. The featured artists have designs you won’t see anywhere else. It’s truly a special place to go for gifts or a present to yourself. Worth visiting for sure!

I bought an amazing ring with a rose on it for my sister whose middle name is rose and the reason I like it so much is because the store is like a unique curio closet filled with all sorts of unexpected delights that you know are all hand made by actual people. Also my sister likes the ring very much. Also, they have hip art on the walls too and friendly staff with a can-do approach to selling jewelry.

I love this shop! It's my go to for unique pieces of jewelry that are both beautiful and handmade. The staff are incredibly helpful, and patient - as I can find myself browsing non stop trying to take in all the beautiful pieces. The only issue is I usually end up getting things for myself when I only meant to go in for a gift.

Specific Gravity is an unique gem in Brooklyn but also in all of New York City. The shop/gallery specializes in showcasing a lovely collection of local art jewelry as well as selection of wedding jewelry and special occasion pieces. There are so many different styles and a lot of the pieces are one of a kind. Staff is friendly and educated and can guide your purchase journey with ease.I highly recommend it as a place to get yourself a unique piece of jewelry as well as a gift destination!

If you are looking for a unique piece of jewelry this is the place to search. Specific Gravity represents a variety of local jewelers who each have their own different flavor and point of view in making. The staff is welcoming and very knowledgeable.

Beautiful store! Beautiful collection! Specific Gravity is a small local business that supports local jewelers. As a designer myself I appreciate that kind of handmade, detailed oriented pieces.

A unique and inspiring cooperative-run jewelry store showcasing work of their nearby maker-collective. The work ranges in form and materials from the more traditional to the avant-garde and in price-point from no-regret impulse buy to a let-me-sleep-on-it-first purchase. Overall, the place is a microcosm of jewelry and metalsmithing trends and expressions happening at the heart of art and craft scene in Brooklyn.
