Hours: The Van Horn Mansion is a historic and reportedly haunted estate located on Route 78 in Niagara County, overlooking Eighteen Mile Creek. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves as a cultural centerpiece for the Town of Newfane. Visitors can enjoy a tour from cellar to attic, learning about the Victorian mansion's structure, its construction, the Van Horn family, and the mission to preserve it from very knowledgeable and pleasant historian guides. The mansion offers regular Sunday tours from May to August, along with specialty holiday tours from October through January, including a popular Candlelight Tour. Private tours can be booked anytime. Many guests report significant supernatural activity, including sightings of figures like a blonde woman in a Victorian nightgown or a little girl, and experiences of physical sensations and possible attachments. The location is celebrated as an excellent ghost place full of activity. While the space can feel small for some private events, it is generally loved for its gorgeous interior and historic ambiance. The mansion is also available for private rentals. Volunteers and staff are noted for their great energy, honesty, and love for the place, which continues to improve over the years. Supporting the mansion helps the Historical Society keep history alive and maintain the house in wonderful, tip-top condition.
