“I've had so many bad experiences with car mechanics over the years that I have come to just expect it, mostly in the form of blatant overcharging for work, recommending unneeded repairs (hello, brakes that somehow need to be replaced every year!), and sometimes just outright shoddy work. I'd become convinced that this is just the normal state of things, part of the game when owning a car. They overcharge you, you push back and work out a price that's still too high but whatever. They try selling you unneeded work, you decline, they push, you decline again, they come up with other unneeded services, you decline. Etc., etc., ad nauseum. So I've been more than a bit shocked at my experiences at Doerr's. No drama, no overcharging, no constant overselling of services, nothing. Just quiet, competent work for a fair price. You drop off the car and ask him to do an oil change? He'll do the oil change and charge you a nominal price, not 3x the going rate with an added note that you need to change your brand-new brakes because they're "wearing thin". You drop off the car for a New York inspection? He sees you need new wipers, calls to tell you so, charges you $18 per wiper - not $80 - and your car is ready for pickup. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but, to my perpetual amazement, it never does. It's my highest compliment, one I feel uneasy giving given how many times I've been let down by other mechanics, but- this guy is honest. He and his shop are a diamond in the rough.”
“It was clear from my brief experience at Preferred Auto Service that these guys are honest and definitely have the customer’s best interests in mind. Example 1: The manager Carlos gave me the price quote on the part that I needed and it was over $250. He told me it seemed expensive and suggested I look elsewhere. He gave me the part number and I found it online for $70! I ordered it right to the garage and they installed it in less than an hour. Example 2: I went to pick my car up after they were closed and my battery had died. Victor has just closed up the shop and was on his way home. He saw that my personal jumper didn’t have enough juice. He insisted on letting me try his. When his didn’t work, he re-opened the shop to get the big jumper which worked like a charm.”

“This is my go-to for all my maintenance needs- oil change, inspection, brakes, etc. They have early appointments which is really helpful, and they always charge a fair price for the service. I most recently used them for brakes on my Tesla Model S and they were less than half the price of the dealer, and MUCH better service too.
