This is an excellent, local bookshop. It's logically-organized with a great selection. If you need something that happens to be out of stock, the staff are very helpful and can put you on a list to notify you when it's available. Bonus: If you're lucky, you can catch a glimpse of Georgie, the handsome, ginger tabby who is the logo for the store.

What a great book store. A huge selection for a small location. Amazing staff. Even a great store cat! I will be back.

Great bookstore that we patronize every time we’re in Cold Spring. They pack an excellent selection into a relatively small (but not tiny) space, the staff are friendly, they have a large and diverse children’s section, and there’s a cool cat who is usually around. What more could you ask for in a bookstore?

Do not go to this bookstore. The owner threw my sister, my mom, and myself out of the store because my little sister said she got a kindle for Christmas. We were all shopping in the store and picking out books that we wanted to purchase, when my sister picked up a large book. She noted that a book that size would be better on a kindle because of its size and heaviness. The owner came over to my sister from behind her desk and aggressively asked her why she was in her store if she has a kindle. My sister tried to explain that she reads multi-modally (sometimes in a physical book and sometimes online), but the owner would not listen. After back to back accusations towards my little sister, I asked the owner why she was angry, to which she began yelling that it was her store and she can do what she wants and she will not have people in her store who use kindles and who are not buying books. Mind you, the three of us intended to buy at least one book each. My mother had picked out an entire series to purchase moments before we were attacked by this emotionally charged book seller. The owner then ordered us to get out of her store because she can “do whatever [she] want[s] in [her] store!!” Before we could exit, she tried to close the door on me while I was attempting to exit. When I asked her to stop she bolted to the back of the store and slammed a private door leaving us alone in the exit of the store with the outside door wide open! Not knowing what to do we left and shut her door so her unattended cat did not get loose.I do not know this woman, and I have never been to this store before today, but to say we will never be returning is an understatement. My family was attacked by this woman without a cause. My family was having a joyous day prior to entering this store. I have never been so appalled by the diminutive amount of etiquette portrayed by one person. This store owner should be ashamed by their actions. My sister is an avid reader and wanted nothing more than to support a small business with her purchase today. This store owner caused other businesses to lose sales as well because after we were kicked out we walked into the general store down the street and were so shaken up we decided to go home.NEVER GO TO THIS STORE!

A wonderful bookstore with such a variety of reading material and adorable mascot- George. I came across this bookstore and had the most pleasant conversation with strangers and the owners. They had such a wide array of books, and inreceived so many recommendations from people, it was fantastic. I absolutely loved the vibe and their mascot! I got 3 books for under $50 so it was definitely a bit of a splurge, but I'm quite happy with my choices.

Super cute bookstore! Staff are friendly and the resident cat stole my heart. Always glad to support an independent book store.

Neat independent bookstore that we found on a damp day. I’m a little biased as a customer was reading Danny and the Dinosaur to several children when we went in. It was my first book as a child and I read it to my own children. The store cat was quite sweet and the folks behind the counter friendly. It may not be large in size but it is huge in atmosphere.

really wonderful, small independent bookstore that has a great selection of literary fiction published by respected independent and small presses like Dorothy and New Directions, and more. 10/10

Let me start by saying that I am a lover of books, all sorts of books, especially illustrated ones and the classics. The best example of a truly great local bookstore, in my estimation, is the incomparable Bruised Apple in nearby Peekskill. But I digress.Split Rock is not really a warm and friendly purveyor of books and their enjoyment. Rather it is a political apparatchik that promotes biased propaganda of the Left only. You will not find a great deal of beautiful or even scholarly tomes. Rather, the selection is what you would expect from someone who recently graduated college with a gender studies degree. And if that’s not reason enough to avoid this place, let me also warn you about their muzzle mask policy which the local Branch Covidians simply adore. Nobody gets in without a face diaper and I heard they are considering a vax mandate too.If you are a serious book lover and someone who values personal freedom, this is not the place for you.
