Dr. Mauro and her staff absolutely set the bar for veterinary care. Daisy is my first dog and honestly I was a highly inexperienced dog mom. I previously had a rabbit and the vet care I received at a different vet made me realize just how great Dr. Mauro and her staff are. We met Dr. Mauro during the midst of Covid protocols over a phone and I knew that she would be taking amazing care of my baby girl. In 2021 Daisy began experiencing some upsetting symptoms and without a hesitation, Dr. Mauro and her staff saw us. Dr. Mauro diagnosed a chicken allergy (I didn’t even know that was possible!) Since then Dr. Mauro has assisted us in other medical emergency’s and preventative care. The feeling of when people know your name when you walk in, is something you no longer see most places. We are forever grateful for Dr. Mauro and her staff. We wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Never met Dr Mauro ever. She came out of the office aggressive and rude. Even the ladies at the desk were taken back by her disrespectful manor. Dr Mauro was describing what she thought was best for my dog MEANWHILE SHE NEVER MET HIM. I think the strangest thing was the lack of her bed side manor ( N0 hello or introduction). She stated she had met my wife and my wife has never met her. She never once was concerned about my dogs well being. When I asked her questions about his medication, she didn't know anything about it. WHAT A HORRIBLE WAY TO MEET SOMEONE. I have read her reviews and many of them feel the same way. Other reviews say she has her reviews taking down. I am sure people have told her to work on her PASIVE AGGRESIVE BEHAVIOR.

Dr Mauro and everyone at South Gate animal hospital helped us make my dogs years with us easy. We adopted a senior dog and only got to spend 2 years with her but they made them 2 quality years. Dr Mauro made every right decision she could for her and fought with us until the end. She was with us when she helped our sweet girl pass on. Everyone from the office came in to give our girl kisses and to say goodbye. I never feared them having my dog. My dog loved them all so dearly and I’m grateful for everything they tried to help us have more time. Walla loved you all. We can’t say thank you enough.

Came to pick up meds for my pet, it is 5:30pm, business hours says they should be open til 6. I drove all the way here for nothing. This place is money hungry and they have no empathy for your pets do not come here.

They recommended my cat be put to sleep the day he was first seen, due to "meowing a lot because he is in pain" lol he hates the carrier and he wasnt named "screamer" as a newborn 9 years ago for no reason.. hes just a vocal cat and doesnt like carriers or car rides. Anyway hes shown 0 signs of discomfort since the visit a month ago. Getting an ultrasound and biopsy done elsewhere tomorrow but as of right now i would have never known he was sick the last whole month if they didnt tell me to put him to sleep the same day he was seen.... still eating drinking sleeping using the litter box and playing normally... even if its terminal cancer he deserves his last months with me comfortable until he becomes uncomfortable. So weird to try to convince me to euthanize that day. Will definitely be looking into legal recourse if for any reason this is a blockage in my cats abdomen that was misdiagnosed here and could have been treated much earlier.

I never write reviews, however after my recent encounter with Southgate Animal hospital I needed to take a moment to write this review. I have taken my pets to this vet for many years so this negative review pains me. I feel that the services here at southgate animal hospital have declined, and due to perhaps understaffing or inappropriate staffing diagnosis errors, and common mistakes and oversight has happened. I recently took my pet to Dr. Maura, she misdiagnosed my pet, I had the hospital send over the records proving misdiagnosis and Southgate animal hospital refused to correct it. They are extremely expensive however I thought to myself you pay for quality. I never second guessed any of the pricing I would have paid whatever the price to keep my pets healthy. About 2 years ago Dr. Maura misdiagnosed my pet, who had cancer, When I took him to the animal hospital after he became deathly ill the Doctor there said too bad I did not take him to another doctor sooner because he would have been able to be saved. That broke my heart, it took a while for me to go back to her.. however I thought it could happen to anyone correct? Well I thought I was doing the right thing in trusting her and the clinic, I became weary due to the original misdiagnoses and started double guessing everything it is for this reason I took my pet to other doctors and hospitals. I took my latest pet to the hospital and was given a completely different diagnosis from the diagnosis she gave the next day. I know her diagnosis was incorrect because the hospital did actual tests, and she only listened with a stethoscope... I know this review is a bit long winded however I would just like to caution pet owners to question diagnosis's made at this vet. She used to be an amazing doctor, I truly loved and valued her as my pets doctor, but she needs to slow down and pay attention to her patients, money isn't everything. We trust her with our pets like any parent would with their children. She should definitely consider different office staff. Like I said I would have paid anything she asked money isn't the issue, quality is.

The vet is wonderful she is great with my dogs, I only wish she would get her own practice because VCA charges an arm a leg, but the pet insurance is very convenient if you have a pet that needs a little extra care!!!! I definitely recommend this veterinarian!!!!

Pet owners beware, my fur babies were all patients of this hospital for well over 15 years, and once I bought a misdiagnoses of my pet to light I was told to take my pets elsewhere. They had no problem with discarding us as patients, this is even though the proof of misdiagnosis was written and well documented by their sister hospital. I lost 2 pets under the doctors watch, all of which could have most likely been avoided if proper diagnosis was given or even proper testing at least. My doxie was bought into the doctor at least once every 1-2 months for symptoms of cancer and I was always sent home with medication to ease the symptoms not once was my dog tested for something serious but always treated for an upset stomach, come to find out he had cancer, a curable cancer at that, if it would have been diagnosed correctly.. fast forward a couple years later, another pet the doctor saw my pet for 11 straight years, same doctor all of a sudden after an er visit she diagnosed my dog with a heart condition that in his medical records at a superior hospital (same VCA) stated clearly several times that he did not have, and she refused to correct his medical records and follow up with a proper diagnosis. They take guesses at this hospital, if you love your pets do not bring them here, it is all about the numbers at this location and not about the pet.

Dr. Mauro and her team truly show a deep and authentic concern for animals. They treat your dog or cat as if it were their own, which makes us incredibly pleased with choosing their services for our beloved dog, Penny. The care and attention they provide are top-notch, leaving us with nothing but contentment and trust in their expertise.

Took our senior dog and puppy for their initial visits today. We move on a regular basis for work, and always hope to find excellent care for our dogs (2 Dobermans, 2 Dachshunds). We are very pleased to finally have found an excellent, trustworthy vet in New York. Dr. Mauro performed an incredibly thorough exam on our senior pup. He has several health issues and we were feeling that his conditions were just what we would have to accept due to his age. Dr. Mauro presented options that will hopefully help our Diesel enjoy a better quality of life. We are certainly thankful for that. We also purchased the care club package for our dachshund puppy. Seems to be a good value for his current and upcoming needs. The entire staff was warm and engaging. This doctor is top notch! Thank you so much for making their visit awesome! *note to corporate- someone needs to either reach out to facilities or the landlord about your ceiling tiles. Clean facility but the sagging tiles are not a good look and could be a hazard if they fall on patients or their parents. * note to Dr. Mauro- mentioned to the desk- our previous favorite vet is Dr. Mauro who lives and practices in Vegas. What an interesting coincidence!

My dogs hair gets so matted, but they cut it with out leaving any scratches... also for the more aggressive dogs they offer grooming under anesthesia, it seems to be safe. My dog hasn't had any bad reactions and they are always able to do what they have to with no problem, they don't do any special hair cuts from what I can see but they get the job done and my dog looks neat and trimmed. Also they have parking in the back of the building, and a few spots in the front. They are a little pricey grooming under anesthesia is like $300.00, and if the pup needs shots its an extra $150.00 plus. You also leave the dog and pick him/her up when they call or text u.
