“I was really happy to find out about this place right in my neighborhood of Kaisertown after browsing r/Buffalo on Reddit. Mike's Homemade Candies on Clinton came highly reviewed. The woman serving us was so nice and let me try the to-die-for peanut butter sponge candy. The chocolate was so much better than the sponge candy from Wegman's which I had been buying for years. Mike's is going to run you a little more. Wegmans is about $7 for a 1/2 lb container while Mike's is about $11-12 for a 1/2 lb but there is a night and day difference in texture and flavor. Great gift ideas in this store as many people won't treat themselves to these sorts of things but would appreciate the little luxuries as a gift. Nice and attentive people inside. Lots of other homemade chocolates and such I'm looking forward to trying.Vegetarian options: Most of the candies & desserts are vegetarian, not vegan.”

“The best hand dipped candy around! Anywhere else you go they have machines, that's not the case here! I talked with the owner, and she explained how they hand dip EVERYTHING! Go get your candy and they ship out of state!!! Their sponge melts in your mouth and you can buy just the naked sponge! Support local!”

“This place is a treasure trove of Nick knacks. Entire seasonal play sets for all holidays. Figurines, ornaments, some hard to find collectibles. Just a wonderful place where I’m sure you could find a gift for anyone. The sweets shop is a chocolate lovers dream. Brittle, fudge, and all sorts of wonderful chocolate. Other candies as well.I had a great time just exploring the store. The shopkeeper during my visit was having issues with the credit system. I picked out some items I wanted to get my wife. I only had card and it would not go through. The shop keep apologizes but could not process my payments. I really wanted the items so I elected to go down the street to an ATM to get cash.I don’t think the shop keeper expected me to comeback and was surprised I did. He apologized again for the inconvenience and in good faith threw in another box of fudge for free.Besides the wonderful items the shopkeeper was so caring and a delight. I will be coming back to this shop and I highly recommend everyone visit. A true joy.”

Every Valentine's day my daddy would get me my orange chocolate heart, and at Easter my orange chocolate cupie baby. I love their orange chocolate. “Buffalo is blessed with fantastic chocolatiers. Each one can put his own spin on their candy. When you walk into a chocolate shop it is a religious experience. You aren't there to buy a box of chocolate and rush out the door to Wegmans. You are there to celebrate the masters of their craft. So Mr. Cork sniffer, is Parkside the best? It might be. Watson's is also my favorite. I'll just stick to talking about sponge. Parkside has the thinner sponge pieces. I might favor that format. But they both are kings. You can love two things the best, right? You have to be aware that sponge is delicate. So is the chocolate too. Maybe you kept it too long. Maybe, god forbid, there is a bad piece. Like mold on cheese, sediment in the wine, and grizzle in the steak - sometimes it has flaws. But Buffalo sponge is a treasure. Thank your lucky stars the place exists. Now go buy some!”
