Happy Family used to be a very affordable, great tasting Chinese food option. I've been away for quite some time. I recently returned and couldn't wait to have Chinese food. I tried to order online. That wasn't an option. I tried to call the provided phone number to order. The number was incorrect. I finally went to order in person. The girl taking my order was efficient. She spoke as little to us as possible. The restaurant was very cluttered and didn't appear very clean. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the food. The sweet and sour chicken was undercooked and soggy. There was no pineapple, cherry, onion or any other fruits and vegetables that used to be served with the dish. The dipping sauce cup was less than half full. Lo Mein was so bland that we didn't even eat it. We sadly won't be ordering from them, again. Another Elmira favorite gone downhill. Thank Goodness for the remaining Elmira Longtime Local Favorites! We welcome some NEW Favorites to the list, as well!

We like their food but the prices have tripled in just a short time for the same two dishes we order.

New to the area, and accidentally placed order here instead of Family Wok. Didnt want to be a jerk and cancel order. Eggrolls were fine. Soup was good. Fried crunchy noodles were ok..oil must've been too cool, as they were greasy. General Tso's was disappointing, having odd flavors. Lo Mein was also disappointing..barely anything in it. Overall, very mediocre. You can bet I won't make the same mistake again.

Though I feel good always have a place for improvement I do love how they care for the customers and treat them with a lot of respect. I will always have respect for this place and hope to see them stay around for a while.

Great food, and good people. The area around Happy Family and building are "Elmira" run down... But the food is awesome. I prefer their chicken wings.

It's the first time I ever went inside and I wish I would have a long time ago. I will never eat there again. The health department should close them down. If you haven't been inside there I suggest that you check it out before making your next order.

This restaurant severally needs some serious cleaning. I would think twice before ordering food. If the restaurant is unclean, imagine what the kitchen might look like!!!!!!!!!

Decent food but don't get the Chow Mein.Chow Mein means stir-fried noodles in English, but they will give you a box of boiled lettuce and onion and no noodles, it's not even stir fried. (See attached picture.) They will give you wonton strips as a side to it and try to pretend thats what it means by noodles but it doesn't.The worst part is that they will try to convince you that it's normal and what it's suppose to be, but if you google Chow Mein you will see the actual dish. Mein literally means noodles but as you can see in the picture there are no noodles and the lettuce isn't even stir fried. Yet they continued to try and tell me that It's suppose to be a thing full of boiled lettuce. Don't try to tell me I'm wrong and scam me at the same time.To me it seems like a way to save money by just giving the customer a box of lettuce and hoping they don't call back or bring it back. They did let me swap it out, but still tried to tell me I was wrong.
