I had some major issues with one of my accounts and I encountered an Angel named Roselyn Gomes . She went above and beyond to assist me , for that I'm forever grateful ! I wish they had more employees like her for all others to learn from . Compassion is one of many things we lack in these current times. Thank you Roselyn and the staff that were there in my time of need. Happy Holidays.

Hello, and I must say I have been dealing with this less than par bank now for over 7 months. My mother has an account with the bank and they have been extremely rude to her on more than three accounts. This not a one-time thing, their tellers are rude, and at the same time, their automated services are absolutely 10 to 15 years behind current standards. They have made banking hard, their customer service is lacking to none existing and I am trying to convince my mother to drop their bank. They need to really overhaul their online bank website and automated phone service. It was an absolute nightmare....nightmare just to activate an ATM card. How is this possible? Their customer service representative was not able to help or WILLING to, then the Bank teller made matters worse and was confused, plus they did not want to help us and told us to go home and do everything online. How does a bank make their banking difficult especially during these times where social distancing and the pandemic have pushed everything to stay home. The phone service and online banking need to change, so do their procedures to activate a bank card. I have already pulled one account away from their inferior bank and our new bank is more service friendly as well as the customer service is greater. But from the looks of it, and from experiencing it multiple times, the bank does not care about their customers so do yourself a favor and do not even bother with them.

Since Sterling took over Astoria Bank the service has been terrible. I'm disappointed/disgusted and will switch my accounts to Chase.

I started using Sterling National this year and felt it was time to leave a review.. Their staff is very kind and welcoming. They don’t get overly flooded with people and lines, which is a huge bonus because who wants to wait forever to see a teller.

I closed my account with them when they took over Astoria bank - however they kept charging me fees monthly. When I called to complain I was told my account was never actually closed. The woman on the phone told me she was going to speak to her manage and call me back - she never called me back and they continued to charge me fees for an account that didn't exist. When I went to my branch to complain in person, they insistedI pay the fees - and by then it was over $140. I refused, told them to close my account immediately- they refused until I pay these fees for an account that they didn't close properly the first time. I left without being able to properly close my account - i'm assuming they finally did close it because it's been several months since they harassed me with more fees.

I visited the bank today to make a small deposit to update my passbook because last time I made a deposit, on 5/24/19 the printing system was down. I was never sent a courtesy printout for this savings account-only my checking account. Today as soon as I got to the window the lights flickered and after 5 minutes the customers were informed that "this time" (I guess this is an ongoing problem) it wasn't "them" but Floral Park power. They will manually process transactions - I decided to leave and return after 15 minutes as suggested. When I returned, I asked the manager if the system was up. I was told that it was. When I got to the window I asked the teller, she also told me the system was up. When she finally felt ready to handle my transaction, shechanged her mind and said that the system was in fact DOWN! Management were all by the door waiting for I don't know what, but not being straight with the customers and not to concerned with the customers. Our time-lunch time- is not important. NOT GOOD!

Don't be influenced by one or two disgruntled customers and their issues. I had a very good experience at this branch in particular and I made sure I posted this to share. The manager, who was delightful, personally handled a matter in which a direct deposit from another Bank all together was holding my funds for 10 days! She personally contacted my employer and swiftly handled the matter, had that transaction cancelled and my employer issued a direct deposit that same day. I couldn't be happier. It's moments like this when you can actually interact with a human that makes a huge difference. !! Thank you.

Beware, this bank is ridiculous, they froze my account because they claim I was depositing too much cash, and believe be we deposit the most $5000 in cash monthly, to pay bills with checks, I have other bank accounts for savings and CDs, so from time to time, if we have a payment due immediately, we go to our savings bank, make a cash withdrawal and deposit it. They froze the account, and we couldn't login to make sure a payment was made and we went down to the bank and called Bloomingdales to check and the payment bounced. They want us to provide documentation were the cash came from. You would think we were depositing $20k at a time....we went to close the account and they refuse to give us the balance, until we do, it is the principal, we are not going to give them anything.

My husband and I have been banking with Astoria Bank for over 30 years. Now that they've merged into Sterling it's been a nightmare. I believe that the workers in this bank have also given up on trying because their computer system is so bad. The customer service is now also slipping. We're moving our money to TD, much better service all around.

Stupid is stupid does sure fits this bank especially the one located at 4608 Francis Lewis Boulevard; this bank is utterly useless; I used the ATM and unlike other banks this bank only gives $20s so if you get a large amount like I did; $840; I went to the teller and told them I would like to exchange the small bills for $100 bills they refused; so expect them to take your ATM fee and only give you $20s and refuse to exchange for larger bills; I will take my business to other banks like Citibank or Chase and I suggest others to too; oh yeah and they do not give cash advances; I will relay this to my family as will and have them close their accounts at Sterling National Bank; also TD Bank does much better business than the as well.
