More space and brighter, compared to their previous location which was very tight. Still a small store so can find needs but not an extensive variety. There's a rewards card which can earn you $20 discount after 100 stamps (1 stamp per $10 purchase). Tip: if you forgot your rewards card, have your receipt stamped and bring it back the next time to be added to your card. Helpful staff. Have been enjoying the riceballs from here - less than $3 each. Seaweed wrapper is separate until ready to eat. Haven't tried their other cooked food items.

Amazing rice balls. Don’t come here because they are so delicious and I don’t want you to buy them all. I want them!

My favorite Japanese market! :D they recently expanded too. They make the best tuna onigiri! (In my opinion) freshly made everyday, sometimes I get there right when they finished making them. Make sure to bring cash though if you plan to spend less than 10 bucks.... since they have a $10.00 minimum when using card. Some of their items are overpriced, like their hair products and such, but they have a really good variety of things. Cute spot :)

I love this store so much. Everything I walk in I feel transported to a Japanese convine store. It's cute and cozy. They offer a variety of groceries and hot food as well as produce. The new location is even bigger and I can't wait for them to stock even more things from Japan. They are also reasonable prices and run weekly sale. A hidden gem in Forest hills and a must visit.

Great Japanese grocery store with reasonable pricing. They have ready to eat hot food too. They also carries other Asian pantry items like Thai curry, fish sauce, etc.

The food is ok and decent for Japanese take out I never pay attention of the prices and the bill in each week that we go this store. Somehow today i see the bill and got curious about $2.69 " non tax item " that we paid. And we paid for 8.875% tax at the end of bill too. Im really curious and don't feel right about this! Definitely gotta ask the store next week we go

Sakura-Ya on Austin St is an absolute hidden gem, and it's an easy 5/5 stars for me. What sets this place apart, in my opinion, are their delightful bento boxes and the incredible selection of Japanese grocery snacks.Let's start with the bento boxes. They're nothing short of fantastic. Each bento box at Sakura-Ya is a masterpiece of balance and flavor. Whether you go for the classic sushi options or the teriyaki delights, you're in for a treat. The freshness of the ingredients shines through, and the presentation is exquisite. It's like having a taste of Japan right in the heart of Austin St.But that's not all – Sakura-Ya's Japanese grocery snack selection is a treasure trove for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese treats. From Pocky to mochi, senbei to Japanese candies, they have it all. It's a paradise for snack enthusiasts and those looking for unique, hard-to-find items. The staff at Sakura-Ya are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They're more than happy to guide you through their selection, offer recommendations, and share their passion for Japanese cuisine and snacks.Whether you're a seasoned lover of Japanese cuisine or someone looking to explore new flavors, Sakura-Ya on Austin St is a must-visit. Their bento boxes and Japanese grocery snacks will tantalize your taste buds and leave you wanting more. It's a true culinary and snacking adventure, and they've certainly earned their 5/5 stars in my book.

Food is ok. The service is nice. It's a small cozy store. They have fresh food made daily. And have fresh veggies and fruits. Plus snacks and drinks.

Since I told the shop in the past I found a shoplifter and the shoplifter ran away, somehow a guy (maybe the shop owner?) follows me while I shop there. I think he must doubt I'm a shoplifter or crazy person. He followed me outside today! Disgusting! If the Tokyo Market in the neighborhood has a better selection of Japanese products, I don't want to shop at Sakuraya anymore. When I go to Manhattan for work, I shop at other Japanese supermarkets in Manhattan. However, when I suddenly need Japanese food, I have no choice, so I shop there. I found shoplifters once again, however I didn't tell them about it anymore. Even if I find other shoplifters in the future, I won't say anything anymore. I'm sure they should set more cameras or hire security guards. I just use the store once a month or less, but I found shoplifters twice at the shop. Too easy to be stolen? shoplifters heaven? That's because of the store's negligence.

Sushi is fresh, store is very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful, but I'm giving it 3 stars because I bit into a piece of salmon avocado and it was hard O_o so the rice was prob 3 days old at that point

Saw this place mentioned on an instagram reel for cheap eats in Forest Hills hawking their sushi, so one day I decided to try them out before work. It's a small Asian grocery that sells sushi, poke bowls and teriyaki combos for take out. I can't wait to go back again - except I have no idea when I'll be back out towards Forest Hills since I started a new job that won't really be taking me out that way.
