I went to EMS for an intro to climbing class last Sunday and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Alexis, our instructor, was super kind and made sure each one of us felt safe and had fun at the same time. We will definitely go back!

I came to New paltz For a couple days looking for rentals of cross country skis and I cannot find anywhere directly in town that rented- I am very grateful I found this place. NIN was an amazing Employee and help us beginners Get set up with Cross country skis And provided recommendations for the local area. I would add a disclaimer that they are not open at all times so I would recommend calling them priorTo arranging a rental with them.

*COVID COMPLIANT* masks worn if within 6 feet of each otherDecided to try out ice climbing for the first time and loved it! I am originally from CA but I currently live on Long Island for school. I was happy to come across this company which offers guided day trips. We were fortunate to have Dan as our guide for the day! We started off by meeting at their location in Gardiner, NY. We were fitted with boots and crampons before checking to make sure we had enough equipment and gear for the day. We packed based on the gear list that they have on their website to make sure we would be prepared. I would recommend bringing a pair of pant gaiters because the crampons can catch on your pants and may tear. Dan made sure to ask us about our skill level and goals for the day before deciding which location he would take us. Our goal for the day was to maybe, eventually, be able to ice climb on our own! We drove separately to Stony Clove. Being from CA, I haven't tried very many winter outdoor adventures. Dan taught to my level and explained the best ways to walk in crampons before starting up the trail. Once we decided on which route we would be climbing for the day, we discussed the objective and subjective hazards before labeling our "safety areas" which were out of harms way of any of the icicles that could possibly fall. We hiked up to the top and set up the anchor. Dan explained what he was doing and how he was doing it. It made me feel safe seeing how much thought was going into our anchor. After being lowered down, Dan joined us to explain the basics of ice climbing with the ice axes. I learned about belaying with the grigri. We were both able to get in a good amount of climbs before our arms and legs were feeling like jello. This sport took a lot of me and it was such a fun challenge!I would recommend this company and Dan as a guide for anyone looking for a challenge! Definitely hope to be back on the ice soon!
