“My primary vetinarian went out of business and Dr. K took over caring for my dog who has many health issues. He and his staff are great. The transition was flawless and all of my dog's health needs were met. Everyone on the staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. K is very knowledgeable and explains things thoroughly. He does not push unnecessary procedures on you to make money. Dr. K is a great vetinarian and I would highly recommend him to anyone in the area.”

“Last Friday I brought my almost 2-year-old orange short-haired cat, Taffy, to Mid Island Animal Hospital just for a nail trim. The team took him right away and brought him back out to me. However, as I went to secure his carrier in the car and walked to the driver's side, my car locked me out—trapping my phone, bag, and key fob inside. It was the most terrifying moment of my life. The immediate rescue efforts from the staff were nothing short of heroic. Almost the entire team came outside to help. They placed blankets and towels all over the car to block the sun and keep Taffy cool. One of the staff members immediately called the fire department to see how fast they could arrive, and even generously offered to personally drive me to my house and back to get a spare key if my family couldn't get there fast enough. Because I live 20 minutes away, we realized a round trip would take too long for Taffy to wait. When they asked if I had AAA, and learned my phone was locked inside, the amazing front desk receptionists immediately looked up the toll-free number on their own phones. They called and passionately advocated for Taffy, firmly explaining to AAA that a pet's life was in danger so they would prioritize the call over their initial 1-hour wait time. Another staff member even ran down to a nearby mechanic to see if they could help, and assured me they had a glass-shattering tool we could carefully use as a last resort if help didn't arrive fast enough. The compassion didn't stop once the car was opened. The staff surrounded us with support. Once AAA unlocked the door, Dr. Wieman and the veterinary team immediately took Taffy into the back to give him a full physical evaluation to ensure he was perfectly okay to go home—completely free of charge. To top it all off, Dr. Wieman personally called me later that evening right before closing, just to check on how Taffy was feeling. When I told her he was doing great, she was so genuinely relieved and even let me know she would be there Saturday morning if I noticed any changes and needed to bring him back in. This traumatic experience proved that Mid Island Animal Hospital doesn't just do a job; they operate with pure love, selflessness, and unmatched empathy as a whole team. They are our heroes, and they have earned my loyalty forever!”

My 16-year-old Chinchilla Persian, Apple, recently had surgery, and the care we received was absolutely world-class. What truly sets Dr. Penyy apart is her incredible heart and selflessness. I’ve seen her kneeling on the floor for a long time just to carefully remove Apple’s sutures one by one, showing zero ego. She once even accidentally bumped her head because she was focusing so intensely on examining him, yet her only concern was making sure we weren’t worried! She genuinely puts the well-being of the cats above everything else. Despite her busy schedule, she is always responsive—answering questions late at night or on weekends with professional guidance. She remembers every detail of Apple’s health stats, which gives me so much peace of mind. As an artist, Apple is my muse, and I picked up watercolor specifically to capture the beauty of cats. I was so moved by Dr. Penyy’s dedication that I painted a miniature watercolor of her caring for Apple. When I gave it to her, she was so surprised and called it 'so artistic'—her reaction meant the world to me. My husband and I feel so lucky to have found such an amazing, compassionate doctor in our corner. “I recently took my cat to Animal General of East Norwich after a really stressful experience at another vet, where I was immediately told she needed surgery. They also took my cat into the back, and I sat there for six hours without seeing her once, which made the whole situation even more stressful. My cat is 15 years old and has never been away from me once, and this is her first medical incident in all the 15 years. I can only imagine how scared she was. That didn’t sit right with me, so I decided to get a second opinion… and I’m so glad I did. At Animal General, my cat was seen by Dr. Leonhardt, who was incredibly caring, kind, and compassionate from the moment we walked in. One of the biggest differences was that she examines and treats her patients right in front of you, which made me feel so much more comfortable and involved in my cat’s care. She quickly identified that my cat had bed sores and did not rush into anything extreme. Instead, she took the time to explain everything clearly, provided the proper medication, and showed me exactly how to care for them at home. My cat was visibly scared, but Dr. Leonhardt and her staff handled her with such caution and care while taking her out of the cage and throughout the entire process. They made sure she felt as safe and comfortable as possible, which meant everything to me as a pet owner. It’s very evident that Dr. Leonhardt has a lot of experience and truly cares about both her patients and their owners. I’ve grown up with cats, chickens, horses, and dogs, and have been to many different veterinarians over the years—and I can confidently say she is the best vet I’ve ever been to. The level of care, attention, and compassion she provides is unmatched. I felt completely comfortable and reassured under her care, which made such a difference during a stressful situation. My puppy got so nervous that she had an accident, but the male nurse didn’t blame her at all. Instead, he comforted her and helped her feel less anxious. When it was time for her shot, they gave her some delicious canned food, which kept her happy and distracted. She finished her vaccination without any pain or stress at all. She went from being nervous to actually loving everyone at this clinic. Such an amazing place with truly caring people. I highly recommend this clinic!”

“I recently moved to the Garvies Point area with my 13-year-old, 100-pound Chocolate Lab, Brewski. Instead of taking him back to his longtime veterinarian in Oyster Bay, I decided to visit Brookville Animal Hospital and explained my situation that he was an older dog. He helped me right away. The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodating. Dr. Mark Plunkett evaluated Brewski and provided exceptional care. Some time later, when Brewski’s health began to decline, Dr. Jeff Krasnoff kindly offered to come to our apartment to check on him. Sadly, the morning before Dr. Krasnoff’s visit, Brewski had to be rushed to an emergency hospital, where we had to make that difficult decision that no animal lover should have to go through. Throughout it all, Dr. Krasnoff reached out to me during that difficult time and showed remarkable compassion and professionalism. They sent a beautiful handwritten condolence letter afterwards which was first class.
