All rooms in the hotel are located directly by the sea with the wonderful sound of the sea. The street on the other side was no longer a problem in terms of noise.
However, you could hardly see the sea with the windows closed because the windows were dirty. The rooms are simple and not very practical. There is only one night lamp on the edge for 2 queen size beds - the wardrobe is between the beds instead of the lamp - for whatever reason. Shampoo dispensers in the bathroom were a bit dirty and poorly filled. Otherwise the room was fine.
But above all, the service bothered us. We were promised a gluten-free breakfast (required due to celiac disease) with various options. In the end, there was initially nothing on offer, according to the employee standing at the buffet. Only after multiple inquiries, including the involvement of reception, were gluten-free English muffins offered, which tasted like polenta and are therefore unsuitable for breakfast. After further discussion, we were informed that the Cheerios and granola from the buffet were gluten free. Bowls and spoons were only given out upon request (plastic spoons).
We went to the lobby at 9:02 in the evening to have a drink and play. We were told that we couldn't drink anything because the bar had been closed since 9 a.m. At 10, without any prior warning, we were rudely told that we had to leave now that they were closing the doors. The event rooms had been tidied up beforehand, so it was uncomfortable and cold to sit (because the doors were open). All in all a big disappointment for the money and the great location.

This "hotel", is a joke. How are you missing basic necessities in the room? Like a lamp? A phone?
Pretty "ghetto", mentality when you have the shower amenities bolted to the wall... what sort of guests are staying here?
And of course its broken. Whats more frustrating is standing in the shower and now the soap dispenser bolted to the wall isnt working...
I am here for a company event. I am not even paying for the room.
I feel sorry for any party that ends up paying, your expectations must be at the motel 6, for this to be acceptable.
Just to be clear for everyone asking, this is a MOTEL. Not a hotel
I am not sure why they advertise as such, this is not a 4 star luxury hotel.

We got married on the North Fork in September of this year and decided to do our wedding room block at The Sound View. In order to reserve a room block, you have to have at least one of your wedding events at the property, so we rearranged our plans in favor of hosting our rehearsal dinner there.
From the beginning, the team was very strict and rigid on the terms of the room block with little to no room for negotiation - we asked if they could be more flexible on check in/check out time since we were basically buying out the whole hotel, and they said no. We also asked if parking could be included and they declined (extra $25 per day per car). The hotel is located along a highway and is virtually unwalkable, so this feels like a cash grab. If you wanted to give welcome gifts to guests, there was an additional charge. Further, when we checked into the hotel, for which me and my husband booked two suites for two days for our wedding party (~$5K), there was no mention of our wedding or congratulations - not even a card or a bottle of wine when we checked in, which I would expect of a hotel that charges upwards of $1,000 a night. It seems like a small detail and effort for them that can really make a guest's experience memorable. We've stayed in many less expensive hotels that offer a more luxurious experience than The Sound View.
On top of all of that, we were required to put a 20% deposit down up front based on the FULL cost of the entire room block, meaning the deposit alone was over $10,000 cash. Once the room block was filled and booked by our guests (where everyone had to pay 50% upfront/put down their own credit card to guarantee the room), we asked for the deposit back and they said they wouldn't give it back to us until everyone had checked into the hotel. It's now been 3 weeks since our wedding and the deposit has not been returned to us. We paid the deposit in August 2023, so they've been holding onto it for over a year. It was only after countless emails and getting our wedding planner involved that they put the check in the mail 3+ weeks after everyone checked out, and 14 months since we originally paid.
The lack of communication and customer service throughout the planning process and during and after our stay was incredibly disappointing and in hindsight, for that price, I would have chosen somewhere else to host our rehearsal dinner and guests. A 4-star hotel is defined by the difference in amenities, staff attention, and overall pampering experience, and I don't feel that the rating is accurate based on our experience. We love the North Fork and chose the Sound View because it's an institution, has beautiful views, and we love The Halyard (restaurant in the hotel), but we left the weekend feeling taken advantage of and disappointed in the level of service and attention we received considering the investment we made. The area is getting more popular, and with that, new competitive hotels are opening up constantly and fighting for that market share. I hope that The Sound View takes a good look at their current practices and strives to improve their service/experience particularly to align with the cost of rooms, as well as to remain relevant/competitive against all the accommodation options opening in the area.

I’m really disappointed with my recent stay at Sound View. It was my third time staying here with my partner, and while we had great experiences before, this time the service was far below the standard of a 4-star hotel. Our room was missing basic amenities like a hair dryer and a “Do Not Disturb” sign, and they don’t provide a water kettle. The bathroom curtain was molded, and there were no slippers, which I would expect at this price point.
We also had trouble with room service — the dinner menu was outdated, the restaurant didn’t pick up the phone, and the receptionist seemed confused, so we had to go to the restaurant ourselves.
On top of that, I was surprised by a $26/day parking fee, which wasn’t there on our previous visits, and I wasn’t informed of it at check-in. The amenity fee has gone up, but the quality of service has definitely gone down.
To be fair, the staff were friendly, but it feels like a management issue. Sadly, after this experience, we won’t be returning to Sound View — it’s no longer worth the price.

Me and my wife went to the Halyard to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted by friendly staff who promptly wished us a "Happy Anniversary". Our server Angel was excellent, and brought out two glasses of complimentary champagne. After the meal was finished, they also brought out a complimentary dessert. The attention to detail was top notch. The food was great, and the views are to die for. One of the best spots to view a sunset on Long Island. If you want a special place to have dinner, look no further!

Beautiful place. Very understated. Staff is great. Can't go wrong staying here.

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights this past week.
The service was excellent - everyone was extremely friendly and lovely. We got some great winery recommendations, and some input on how to get around the area.
The rooms were decent and clean, with a somewhat mildew/damp smell. The view from our balcony, and from the breakfast area of the ocean was beautiful
I generally felt that the hotel was FAR too expensive for what we got. The continental breakfast was okay, but there was no hot item option. The dinner we had at the restaurant on site was far too overpriced for what it was (with a dessert actually tasting like it was spoiled??). There is no fitness center. The self-parking was $26 as other reviews stated - which we were not told when we parked, and entirely too much for the gravel parking lot that we were told to park in.

The location is spectacular! One of the prettiest coastlines on Long Island. Every room has a balcony within 50 feet of the Long Island sound, where you can listen to the waves breaking on the shore till your hearts content. One of the most peaceful sounds in the world. If you are looking for a relaxing staycation, this is it.
Ideally located to everything you want to do on the Eastend, wineries, Greenport, Shelter Island, the Hamptons.
Wonderful, friendly staff, great food. A very memorable vacation.
Rooms: Rooms were immaculately clean tough Spartan.
However, the view from the deck is spectacular and the sunsets rival those from Key West.
Nearby activities: The Soundview is conveniently located to everything you'll want to do on the Eastend!
Safety: The staff is very attentive. The Soundview is fairly isolated. While we were there the guests seemed to be mostly young families just trying to have a peaceful vacation in peace.
Food and drinks: Great complimentary breakfast. Enjoyable dinner, that is vegan friendly. Food was surprisingly good.

Nice place on the Long Island Sound just outside Greenport. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large but absolutely no place to put a toiletry or even a toothbrush. Continental breakfast included but no options to order a full breakfast. Nice restaurant and cozy bar. The beach is cute but it could use a tidying up.

I have been staying at the Soundview for 8 years - sometimes multiple times per year. Unfortunately, this will be my last time staying here. Here is my experience and why I will not be coming back to the Soundview.
1. When we checked in the pool was being closed for a private pool party that if you wanted to attend was over $200 a ticket. (So they closed pool to guests on a summer day to essentially make more money) Why they wouldn't have this party on the beach and not inconvenience guests who want to use the pool is beyond me. The person at the front desk when I asked about why the pool is closed could not have been any ruder about the situation.
2. They charge $26 per night for parking. Okay, fine. However, I told them I will park my truck myself and they told me to park all the way in far lot to not inconvenience the valet. So, as the customer/guest who is paying money for parking I shouldn't inconvenience them? I was amazed at the mindset and lack of hospitality.
3.When we finally went over to the pool the water was freezing. If you are going to charge rates of a 5 star hotel, how about heating the pool. Also, they replaced all of the lounging beds and chairs with cheap old school recliners and chairs. Not comfortable at all. They also only have one bathroom next to the pool.
4. We ordered food from the pool/snack bar and they served everything to us plastic takeout trays. Didn't give us enough utensils, napkins, etc. Again, if you are going to charge $700 plus a night with resorts fees and such I think you shoukd offer a better pool service experience.
5. The room was clean. However, they changed all the bedding to this very cheap material and the pillows, blankets, bedding were all damp from the humidity and being near the water. No matter how high I ran the AC nothing helped and it was completely uncomfortable.
6. The first night because of the great pool party they didn't have any service on the beach for the sunset. Completely disappointing for all the guests who didn't want to spend extra money on the amenities they already paid for.
7. They claim to have s'mores for the kids and roasting marshmallows. They didn't have any available but the room has a kit you can buy for $16 and the kit is awful. It's just a money grab and again another bad experience for guests.
8. We went to the restaurant and the service is mediocre at best. I asked for a drink that I got at the pool, they told me they do not serve that here (It was a seltzer) again zero hospitality. The menu is not great and honestly neither is the food. Everything I ate was oversalted. I had the half chicken, which didn't come with any sides, lacked presentation, was not butchered or separated into pieces. The waiter put the plate down and left the plate hanging off the edge of the table. The staff does not have the proper training, unfortunately.
I decided that I would order desert to go. I ordered the seasonal fruit. It was 10 pieces of banana, few slices of apple, and few blueberries for $16 I am not sure how that is seasonal but..... We also tried the cake and the bread was stale and so was the bread we ordered for the table. The meal without tip for 2 adults and 2 kids was $265 The price doesn't match the experience.
I almost never leave reviews but this one of the worst experiences I have had there or at any hotel charging $700 plus a night. I have stayed at 4 star hotels that charge similar rates per night and the experience is spectacular. The Soundview has a lot of work to do if they want guest to come back and pay the rates they are charging.
The only thing I like about this hotel is the view but for the money you can stay anywhere in Greenport or Shelter Island and have a much better experience and the same view. We live about an 1.5 hours away and just decided not to stay the last night

Amazing Family-Friendly Stay at Sound View Hotel!
We had a fantastic stay at the Sound View Hotel with our family of four, including a 6-year-old and a newborn. We booked a spacious Junior Suite, and it was perfect for us—plenty of room for everyone, and the direct access to the beach and pool made it incredibly easy to supervise our kids from the room.
The service level was truly impressive. Every employee we encountered was caring and kind, but Kayla from the front desk went above and beyond. Our older child was disappointed that the firepit wasn't on for s'mores during the week, but Kayla opened the restaurant between shifts just to surprise him with two huge scoops of ice cream—on the house! It made his day and ours too.
The food at the hotel exceeded our expectations for a Long Island resort. We tried a range of dishes, from ceviche to sirloin steak, and even the al dente butter pasta for the kids was delicious. Each meal was prepared to perfection.
One of the highlights for me was the 40-minute afternoon swim in the sound as part of my triathlon maintenance training. The beach-facing location of our suite made it easy to step right out and enjoy the water.

For the amount of money they charge it should be so much nicer, the AC looked and sounded like it was from 1999 and they charged us to park which felt like a total scam

Good view, just ok room. The breakfast only with limited options. No hot food, just toast oven with bagels and a few pastries.

Great location. The view is amazing. The rooms are musty and not very clean. I personally had to clean the back doors and windows so I could actually enjoy the view. The fees are absurd. I dont even think they are legal. Why would I have to pay NYS tax and Suffolk County Tax in Greenport? That along with occupancy tax. 13% they are adding to the stay. But no... that's not enough... Lets add a donation fee... a "Guest Amenity Fee" ($150 for 2 nights) AND a beach erosion fund of $40. Total fees of almost $400 for 2 nights. Here is another kicker... if you want to park on premises you have to PAY MORE! I think it was $25 per night. That or keep your car across the street. I dont even get how they are still in business. Id love to come back... but there are many other options close by that dont charge these absurd fees.
