Great hot and sour soup. The Mandarin beef is really great too.

I found the American Chinese Food section of Shu Chinese's menu interesting. There, one can find the ubiquitous offerings of General Tso's Chicken, Chicken with broccoli, Sweet & Sour Chicken, etc. I was in the mood to be slightly more adventurous. Szechuan or Sichuan food has the reputation of fiery spiciness. Mala is the Sichuan term to describe both spicy heat and a prickly, numbing sensation on the tongue due to the use of Sichuan peppercorns. I didn't see Mr. & Mrs. Smith (beef, beef offal in chili sauce, usually served chilled or at room temperature) on the online menu so I chose Dandan noodles and Szechuan style dumplings. The reddish hue of both dishes looked to delivery the mala I was looking for...I'm still looking for it. Don't get me wrong. Both dishes were good, flavorful with a subtly sour taste. What I didn't get was the spicy heat and tingle on the tongue in either dish. I've tried Mapo Tofu (soft tofu braised with pork in a chili sauce) and wontons in chili sauce on previous occasions. I'd say the Mapo Tofu was the closest in terms of giving the hint of mala. Straight opinion - I understand a restaurant has to cater to the tastes of its clientele to stay in business. I wonder if the American Chinese Food section of the menu has inadvertently leaked into other offerings at this establishment.

Not only was the service bad and non-existent, the food was equally disgusting. Chewy meat, tasteless kung pao, reheated rice, and an utterly watery and tasteless boba tea made my experience horrifying. Never coming back

Pleasantly surprised. Interesting take on Chinese food. Slightly different seasoning from what I'm used to. Wonton soup excellent. Had Mongolian Beef which was very tasty. Looking forward to return as there a lot of different offerings from the norm

Different management or different cooks. Forget it. Quality went down hill quickly. Food is not the same as few years

We ordered for delivery honestly because our "go to" Chinese take out restaurant was closed. We weren't expecting that this order would be as good as our usual place - but we were pleasantly surprised! First of all, the delivery was earlier than they had projected. That was certainly nice Specially in regard to the food: a couple of items were a bit different than we were used to. China, being as gigantic a country that it is, clearly has regional cooking differences. Just like Northern Italian food dishes are frequently different than Southern Italian dishes. We ordered Pad Thai. The sauce was very different but it was an excellent dish. The wonton soup broth was also different but, again, was very tasty. We also ordered sweet and sour chicken and it was prepared very nicely - not greasy at all. Lastly, we got an order of chicken fried rice. Extremely tasty and not at all oily. Overall we were very happy with our experience with this restaurant to the point that we will certainly order from again. Give this restaurant a try. You might find your items were prepared differently than you are used to but I highly doubt that you will be disappointed.
