“Last Friday I brought my almost 2-year-old orange short-haired cat, Taffy, to Mid Island Animal Hospital just for a nail trim. The team took him right away and brought him back out to me. However, as I went to secure his carrier in the car and walked to the driver's side, my car locked me out—trapping my phone, bag, and key fob inside. It was the most terrifying moment of my life.

The immediate rescue efforts from the staff were nothing short of heroic. Almost the entire team came outside to help. They placed blankets and towels all over the car to block the sun and keep Taffy cool. One of the staff members immediately called the fire department to see how fast they could arrive, and even generously offered to personally drive me to my house and back to get a spare key if my family couldn't get there fast enough. Because I live 20 minutes away, we realized a round trip would take too long for Taffy to wait.

When they asked if I had AAA, and learned my phone was locked inside, the amazing front desk receptionists immediately looked up the toll-free number on their own phones. They called and passionately advocated for Taffy, firmly explaining to AAA that a pet's life was in danger so they would prioritize the call over their initial 1-hour wait time. Another staff member even ran down to a nearby mechanic to see if they could help, and assured me they had a glass-shattering tool we could carefully use as a last resort if help didn't arrive fast enough.

The compassion didn't stop once the car was opened. The staff surrounded us with support. Once AAA unlocked the door, Dr. Wieman and the veterinary team immediately took Taffy into the back to give him a full physical evaluation to ensure he was perfectly okay to go home—completely free of charge.

To top it all off, Dr. Wieman personally called me later that evening right before closing, just to check on how Taffy was feeling. When I told her he was doing great, she was so genuinely relieved and even let me know she would be there Saturday morning if I noticed any changes and needed to bring him back in.
