About Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site

Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site is a well-maintained and quiet Revolutionary War battlefield. It is a great place for a picnic, walking, or hiking. The site is well laid out with interpretive signs and a bronze relief map on the scenic overlook that describe the important and decisive battle of August 16, 1777. A small information building holds additional displays, making it easy to gain an understanding of the events. Battle positions are well marked. While trees now block some views, it remains a nice spot to visit for a little education and a walk, with plenty of parking. The site could benefit from more resources, such as a guide or a movie in the information center. The hiking trail is noted as hard to locate and could use more signs. Restrooms are available and clean, and there is a shaded picnic area with benches. It is worth a stop, and visitors are reminded it can be hot in the summer, so bringing water is advised. The Bennington Monument, a huge obelisk commemorating the battle, is located in Vermont, a short drive away.
