“I’ve been going to Dr. Blaha for the last three years. When I first came to her, my dog Meeka, was already a senior, and I had just lost my other fur baby of 17 years. I was understandably very protective of the dog I still had, who was also a senior. From the very beginning, Dr. Blaha immediately made me feel comfortable and confident in trusting her with my dog’s care.
At the time, my dog wasn’t what you would consider “sick,” but she did have a lot of medical issues. Early on, she developed neurological problems, and there was a point where we truly thought we might lose her. Dr. Blaha never gave up. If she didn’t immediately have an answer, it was always, “Let’s try this,” or “Let’s try that.” She exhausted every option and genuinely fought for our dog. It was very clear how deeply she cared.
Because of her persistence and care, my dog improved. Dr. Blaha quite literally saved her life during that time. While she continued to have neurological issues and needed medication—as expected for a senior dog—she was doing well and enjoying life again. Like any aging dog, she had occasional issues and made more frequent vet visits, but overall, she was stable.
About six months ago, she began to decline. Her behavior changed, she slowed down significantly, and we knew that her teeth would eventually become a serious issue. When she developed a dental infection, we tried antibiotics, but they eventually stopped working. We were very hesitant to put her under anesthesia due to her neurological condition and the risks involved, but we reached a point where we had no other choice. We made the incredibly difficult decision to move forward with extracting her impacted teeth.
She initially did okay after the surgery, but then developed another infection that simply would not resolve. Despite stronger antibiotics, her condition worsened. She lost weight, stopped eating, had difficulty using the bathroom, and began drinking excessive amounts of water. Prior to surgery, she was already in pre–kidney failure, and her white blood cell count was elevated. After surgery, both her kidney values and white blood cell count more than tripled. She was now in full kidney failure, and her white blood cells were three to four times the normal level. It appeared that the infection had likely spread to her kidneys.
She was clearly in pain and continuing to deteriorate, and we ultimately made the heartbreaking decision to end her suffering.
Throughout everything—especially at the end—Dr. Blaha remained kind, honest, and compassionate. She never told us what to do, but she always guided us with facts, clarity, and empathy, helping us make the right decisions for our dog. There was no more “trying,” because there truly were no options left—and she was honest about that.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Blaha and her staff. Everyone has always been incredibly kind, compassionate, and supportive, checking in on us and treating our dog with love and respect. There is truly nothing negative I can say.
If the day ever comes when I open my heart to another dog, I would absolutely return to Dr. Blaha—assuming she has room for new patients. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my pets. If you’re considering bringing your pet here, don’t hesitate. You will receive exceptional care, compassion, and honesty.
Thank you to Dr. Blaha and her staff for everything they did for us. I will always recommend them.”
