It’s not the lovely woman’s fault at all who cut it- but I don’t think I will ever get my hair cut professionally after that again. It looked so horrible. How was she to know - she didn’t do it on purpose. It’s still growing out and I just should have been more firm with what I wanted. I wanted a messy bob and came out looking like the hulk from the 1970’s- with this really short shag situation that was just so unflattering for me. It’s been three months or so and I still hate it so much and end up having to wear it in a ponytail - which is actually the opposite of what I wanted- I wanted to cover things up- not expose every aspect of my face. I like to hide. Anyway- my bad- but I won’t get my hair cut again. Oh well.

Got my first haircut with Lily today and she was just lovely—created a relaxed environment, was attentive & spruced up my long hair with some gorgeous layers. Love! Will definitely return :). Elana is the best! I’m in my mid 30s and have been struggling with my hair since my hairline started receding a few years ago. She asked all the right questions, taking her time and listening and ended up giving me a haircut that I am obsessed with— a feeling I haven’t had in ages. I don’t think I’ll ever let someone else touch my hair again❣️

Getting a haircut here is like flushing $100 down the drain.I had an appointment with Elana. She brought her puppy to work in a pet carrier and continually left me, to go fuss with the dog. I felt uncomfortable. It was my fault for not saying something right then. The cut took entirely too long- Elana seemed flustered by a simple request for a layered, 70's-style cut. When I tried to explain things, she corrected my terminology- words like "layer" and "blunt," which seem pretty straightforward.Since the website is unclear about the difference between short and medium, I had contacted the salon before making an appointment. I was told by Melissa, the receptionist, that I could book a short cut. However, Elana pointed out that my hair was medium, which costs $10 more. I told her fine, I would pay the difference. Again, I shouldn't have tried to appease her.After a very difficult hour and forty five minutes, I left with a shapeless, lackluster cut. I just wanted to get out of there and decided to follow up with Melissa.First Melissa said she would refund my money and try to book me with another stylist. Then she changed her tune, forwarding my remarks onto Elana. Elana called me and denied everything I said. She told me I didn't know what I wanted. She said she wasn't distracted by the puppy. She said the only thing she could do was try to fix my hair herself.Soo... I followed up with Melissa again. She denied telling me that I would get a refund and an appointment with another stylist. At this point, I have not heard back from her.

I got a haircut here for the first time, and Elana was very patient with my lack of vocabulary. She did her best to help me through the cut and give her advice, while working with what she had. In the end, the cut was a beautiful work of art and I am extremely happy. Although there were a couple mishaps, I am grateful for her patience and talent.Service: Haircut

I got a blow dry at this place for an event. It cost 80 dollars which I thought was hugely overpriced for a simple blowdry and the hair stylist didn’t even do a very good job. When I asked if she could put some curls in it, she said it would be 25 extra dollars. A complete waste of money - I ended up having to redo my hair anyway.Service: Blowdry

I rearranged my day to make a 4 o'clock appointment on time, only to wait 30 minutes, at which point I decided to leave. Nobody told me that the stylist was running behind, or checked in with me during my wait. I could have run an errand or gotten something to eat with that time. Won't be booking again.

I was not prepared for the forms of payment accepted. I handled the situation inappropriately and without respect. The staff and owner were kind to my embarrassed daughter. No one deserves to be treated poorly, but the owner, although rightfully aggravated with me, made a point of assuring my teenager that the situation was not her fault and that she had been lovely. The general vibe at Creative Collective is professional and hip. It somehow maintains the gravitas (in terms of knowing you are in expert hands) of a serious NYC salon, but without the price and pretention. I highly recommend it.My stylist was Elana Tema. She is very gifted. She first took time to thoroughly communicate with me about the look I was going for etc. She was an excellent communicator - which I think is at least half the value of a good stylist. After she felt she understood, she looked at me, made a few cuts - demonstrating incredible confidence and discipline and was done. I mean it might have been 5 or 6 cuts. Somehow, I was transformed. Like the watchmaker in the adage who fixes the watch with one little hit, she knew exactly what to do - and did no less or more than was perfect. So many other stylists would have over cut etc. I am very impressed. She was also compassionate, encouraging me to be 'nicer' and less rough with my hair. This felt nice and made me feel warm fuzzies, in addition to being super happy with the haircut.Services: Hair styling
