The spot to go for all of your hiking needs! With options for all season hikiny gear, water filters, peak patches, bear canisters & more! And yes, they do have a clearance section with some great choices of high quality brands. You know you'll be getting your value out of everything you buy here, because it Is all high quality products from shelf to shelf. The service is usually very helpful and courteous with informative insight on the surrounding area. I have gotten a few patches from here, water proof hiking clothes, bear canister, rain covers & winter hiking pants. It can be a difficult task to leave without spending a few hundred dollars but well worth it!

Big store, great options, fun location! We came here after a long hike and had fun selecting a little souvenir to represent our visit. I'd never been to the Adirondacks before so loved being able to stop into a store that my partner had stopped in so many times before.

Cute little specialty store for hiking and outdoor sports, large selection for a smaller store, I'm sure the parking lot gets pretty full when it's busy so off hours is probably the best bet. Prices are comparable to other specialty stores.

Really cool store, but it's expensive. It's a cool spot to stop and browse and has a lot of good material for backpacking, but as I said before, it's expensive.

The Mountaineer was one of just a few stores with the crampon extensions I needed in-stock, and when I called to ensure the shipping offered at checkout would arrive by the end of the week, they agreed that the [unnamed government mail service] initially offered was unlikely to work. They quickly worked out an alternative that did work out, and didn't even charge the few dollars' difference. I was very glad to have gone through them while clinging to the side of Mt. Whitney a few days later!

I was in the store did not see a sign about return policy of a micro spikes as the displays are full of gear. first off the prices are way higher than the manufacturer prices, 2nd I live 4.5 hrs away from this store. I tried one side crampon in store on carpet. it was a gift for my brother and found out his foot is way larger than mine. I was in the store in less than 12 hours and called to get a refund. This is poor customer service if a package and product is not used and paid an over manufacturing pricing is clearly robbery of clients. watch out for your wallets in this place. Owner didn't want to take care of a new customer that was referred to his store. I will never return and had planned to after I had left. Wow don't let the high end mentality fool you. Sad attitude towards customers on making special exceptions for returns. Wow.... And see how they play the victim in customers supposedly scamming them. Check out manufacturer current prices prior to buying. micro spikes are not considered climbing gear to the manufacturer if you call them. Seems like the altitude or lack of customer service aka fleecing is the way here.

I cannot recommend this place enough. Our first trip to the Adirondacks for Ice climbing would not of been the same without talking to the extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff working here. The gentlemen we spoke to helped us with everything from finding parking, route conditions, hiking tips, and even the exact piece of gear we needed for our specific climb. This place is a must go for any mountain sport enthusiast visiting the area. They have every piece of gear you could possibly need, and I can not wait to go back to this incredible establishment, and see these awesome people again. Thank you for being so kind and genuine.

The best equipment shop I’ve ever visited. They carry an amazing assortment so you can get hands on just about any piece of gear you want. They do a great job merchandising the store too. The team there is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. A+ store.
