I worked here very briefly in their LA office. The credit union itself, very meek. They don't have any benefits that make up for their weak programs and services. Their website and backend tech are antiquated and that's being generous. I saw the writing on the wall and bailed. But! All employees must open an account. When I left, I left my account with $100 because I didn't want to step into the office and felt it wasn't anything to fret over. But this is the thing about Actors FCU. They find little minute ways to nickel-and-dime you. So after about a year of no activity, they hit me with a no-activity charge. And because I didn't have $100 in the account... they kept chipping away and chipping away. I didn't get updates through email so next thing I know I'm getting a call saying that I'm negative $35 and they'll send me to collections/Chex systems. And they wouldn't just close it. I have to pay the negative before. Stay away from this credit union. Also, just to note: Ausberto Colon. The collection specialist that hounded me for $35. Just an absolute nightmare of a human being.

Part 2 I guess if had not been for Fannie I would not have gotten an account opened. But again she was doing what she is suppose to do...helping the people who come there. That guy William, HORRiBLE! He has HORRiBLE work ethics! He does not like to work. He only wants to help certain people. He only wants to work when he wants to work. A lot of people should not be working. A lot of people should not have the jobs that they have. They don't deserve them and they don't want to be there so why are they there? They are doing a disservice to the customers who come in there looking for help. I don't know what his problem was. I don't know if it was racial but he is awful. He was speaking Spanish to the other people in the room. What did it for me was when he walked his ass to the back of the room to look at my account clearly being nosey! He is rude! He should not have a job. William thinks that it was okay how he acted. It is is not okay and it was not right! Who does he think he is!! I had to write about this because I was very much turned off and disheartened by what I experienced! Let me also say after he did not help me the first time I would not have wanted him to help me but that does not give him the right to think that he can just walk to the back of the room after Fanny had taken my paperwork to look at my account who the fuck does he think he is. A lot of people think that they can just do things and nothing happens to them they are not reprimanded, no one talks to them nothing .....it's not OK it's just not OK. This is a place that deals with people's money, money that they work hard for!

Just awful. Unable to access customer service. Have left many messages. Need to update account for which I have POA. They will not call back. And a hack of 87 years old man's debit card which they deny. Took 3 weeks to get $497. back into his account. I suppose that they think that he went to Arizona to shop in a Walmart.

I, the widow of an actor who gets her widow's pension deposited into her Afcu-account, have recently moved to Africa and applied for a new card... the whole process already takes FIVE MONTHS. I had to go to the boss of 'my' Member Services Representative to obtain a card, it is FINALLY activated, the only thing missing now is a PINcode. So far I spent OVER $200 in phone costs and all I got was a "So sorry, you have to call this-and-this number for that" but then you get a whole new person, who refers you to "this-and-this phone number" and the whole frustrating experience starts anew. For me, not one to give up easily, this all lasts already significantly LONGER than the 2 days it should take MAXIMUM. Meanwhile, don't ask how low my credit rating is because I CANNOT PAY MY BILLS!!

The preverbal "I wish I could give NO stars" applies here. I hate this bank and the fact that it has ACTOR in the title should not lull you into a false sense of safety thinking that they care AT ALL about artists. LaVerne is a nightmare as is almost every staff person that I have had the unfortunate opportunity to speak to. Lack of customer service Lack of knowledge Lack of education Lack of any skills needed to work with money. I applied for a home loan and they said they were concerned with how many W2's I had... ACTORS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION...ACTORS... Artists have MANY W2's... So after 10+ years I wrote them a letter and told them to fuck off.

Guys please be aware! This is a great service for low interest rate loans, but anything with average to do business with this company is a nightmare!! My debit card expired so I called and asked if they were going to send me a new one and they said yes, this was 10 days ago and they just mailed it yesterday. Literally 9 days after I called and of course I had to call back. I just moved from Los Angeles to Georgia and am trying to register my car, because have my loan is through them I need a permission to transfer my title. I called in and spoke to Laverne who said she was emailing my info and it has never come. I have spent an entire day on the phonE being transferred to message services and no one is calling me back. When I got my car loan at a great rate it took 14 days to buy a car which is unheard of. I can't spend on my debit because it's expired so I have to transfer to my Wells Fargo, what's the point if I can't use the service I have. Every time something goes wrong or changes it is literally a nightmare to deal with them. They need to evaluate why people have a bank or credit union. No one wants to be on the struggle bus to do ordinary banking things. Please beware! Great rates, really hard navigation of their system.

For 2 months I have been calling and emailing the Lending department to assist me with an Escrow analysis and no one has returned my calls or emails. I find their office to be incredibly unorganized. Requests to have my property taxes paid bi-annually always turn into 3 different email requests/updates until I receive a reply. Their mortgage rates are unbeatable and their understanding of a 1099 based income are what keeps me here, but that's it.

My husband and I have used AFCU for as long as I can remember. We are based in NYC, so there are huge advantages: we can use the AFCU ATMs located in McDonald's all over the City charge-free and we can visit the office on 46th street any time to do our banking business in person with an actual human being. By keeping the minimum $100 in our savings account, we get free checking. We have access online to the easy-to-use website. AND, we can make deposits and take care of other banking business via the phone app, which works really well. Recently, my debit card info was stolen and some fraudulent charges were attempted. I called the office, got a representative with very little wait-time, and she helped me report the problem, block the card and re-issue a new one, and provided the forms to recover the one small charge that slipped thru before the fraud was noticed by the debit card issuer. I felt very well-cared for and really appreciated the time and concern from the representative(s). It's stressful to have one's info compromised, and AFCU handled everything very well. On a side note, I really like the staff there and sometimes the hubby and I will stop by with cookies around the holidays... how many banks inspire that kind of appreciation? I'm 100% satisfied with AFCU.

I have been with this bank for several years after using a traditional bank and having my identity stolen twice. I switched to a credit union to avoid this. Well I got my identity stolen again. This time tho unlike every other bank I have worked with in the past I have to PAY to use a notary to sign my fraud statement since I live in LA and there is only one branch office here and its too far to drive and then I have to snail mail it. Not a single bank I have used has required me to jump thru so many hoops to return money that was stolen from me. I have my card in hard so they're security is the issue not me. Well I will be taking my cash and going elsewhere. Seems these guys have really gone down hill. Not to mention charging a monthly fee for a checking account is unheard of these days. Don't open here find somewhere else. Trust me. Update in Response to Evan: A notary is not free so while you may not charge I still have to pay for one. As I said previous both my previous banks and that of my husbands current bank do not require a notary or a wait period to reimburse the fraudulent charges. As for the monthly fee I have thousands and thousands in my share saving to assume I have less than 100 is insulting and incorrect. You still charge 1.99 a month every single month to my account and do not reimburse any atm fees only no charge at Co-ops again many credit union and banks at least reimburse a certain amount these days. If you want to stay competitive and maintain customers you have to offer what others are not make them jump thru hoops.

I can happily report that I've been a member of the AFCU for over 30 years, beginning with a small deposit which was logged by hand in an old-fashioned passbook. At that time, a single, adult FEMALE was precluded from obtaining a credit card and shut out of other forms of credit. Any access to credit was the purview of her husband, father, or other MALE overseer, even though she may be of age and gainfully employed. The Dark Ages? Not so long ago. That was my situation. At 34 years old and gainfully employed, I was unable to rent a car or obtain a mortgage, let alone pay for a simple dinner with plastic. Think about it. The AFCU worked with me to crack this financial glass ceiling. They sat down with me and mapped out a game plan, taking a personal interest in my progress. It took two years, but the result is a consumer who owns her own car and home, and maintains an excellent FICO score. I am grateful to the AFCU.

UPDATE: You've failed to address the essence of my review. 1) I've provided details to your board members where an actors situation working on a low paying contract would allow them a free account at Citibank, chase, BOA, etc and they'd receive a fee from AFCU 2) get a system in place that doesn't charge fees until the transaction actually settles. 3) stop running a member focused financial institution that doesn't actually address the fact that many actors can't keep an account without fees. This financial institution exists to serve provide financial services to actors and those who work in the industry. Sadly, their services are designed to exclude these very people. Recent reports from AEA will show that the earnings of union actors will not allow them to meet the requirements of the CU. If you don't keep at minimum of $100 in your account - FEE. If you have money in your savings, but not your checking - FEE. If you get fuel for your car and the pump authorizes more than what is your checking account (even though the transaction will settle with money still in your account) - FEE. If transactions are made in error and refunded and a fee was assessed - the FEE remains. Leadership is largely unresponsive. You can get an account at a major commercial bank and meet the required minimums without a monthly fee. Also - no ApplePay!

This place is terrible, antiquated, and full of employees that lack even the simplest of customer service skills. Most of us bank here because their whole brand is to cater to performing artists but at the end of the day they are just like very other financial institution that doesn't care about their customers. I incurred a $27 overdraft fee because the outside bank I was using to make a transfer into my AFCU account sent two trail deposits totaling $0.87 then withdrew them after the verification. The withdrawl for $0.87 triggered the overdraft fee which the bank refused to refund because it "wasn't their fault." I was trying to transfer money into my account. Money they could then hold onto and profit of the interest from. The withdrawal never even appeared on my statement yet they still refused. On top of it all the customer service is atrocious. Go to any other credit union or bank.

I was a customer for about 9 years. I had to leave the bank because of an error on their part over a weekend and they have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE on the weekends, so I couldn't rectify the mistake until Monday, and it took them until Wednesday to get it fixed. I was traveling at the time and this caused extreme inconvenience. The costumer service reps that I spoke to seemed to care less. "Oh well, sorry." was the tone I had from them. If you call and leave a message on a reps voicemail they don't call you back. I had to call again to get it straightened out. I used to feel like my money was safe from big banks there. But now I don't feel like my money was safe there either. At least for day-to-day banking.

Nice local branch. Small physical building, however they do have a nice drive through and ATM. Parking lot can get a bit crowded and the parking lot entrance and exit can be a bit tough to navigate.
