Today I made a donation to the HMHS in honor of a high school friend in Rumson, NJ. She and her sister take in aging golden retrievers and provide them with a final home as they enjoy their senior days.

Maybe they wouldn’t have such a hard time getting people to adopt pets from them if they weren’t rude, nasty, and unhelpful. I wonder if they thought about that. The animals and the people here are all clearly miserable.Terrible atmosphere, rude people, animals kept in dirty conditions.I used to volunteer here and very quickly stopped when I realized how deceitful this place is.

The adoption process was quick and easy, if you go at the right time you're never waiting more than 15-20 minutes to see the pups. The councellors tell you everything you need to know about the dog before you take them home. They really do great things here. My boy came home with me fully house trained, gets along absolutely perfect with my cat, so intelligent and already knows every basic command a dog could need plus some fun tricks. Jace was the *perfect* addition to my family. Thank you MHHS!

We came in to look for a possible furry friend. Anne at the front desk was very helpful and the guy who I can't remember his name showed us the dogs were incredibly helpful. We were unsure about getting a pet but we feel like we are almost ready. We will be back!

One of my cats was a stray and now he has a forever home with me. He was afraid of going into a crate so I called and ask if I could bring my other cat. They said yes. Also with the grant from PetSmart I was able to pay for my Salem visit and my nieces dog to get their shot and one was free. I Love MH there always kind and always is there to help. Thank you, Miriam Bellamy.

I donated here when my dog passed away in 2020. She was 13 and best buddy. The staff is professional and friendly. I would totally recommend them

Claimed the older cat we adopted was dewormed however we later found that he did have tapeworms and infected our other 3 cats. We were not told of a deformity in his legs that who knows how this will affect the cat long term. We were also assured he is good with other cats yet he bullies and fights with our other 3 cats, scratching them so bad they have scars now. Half the cats when we went to see about adopting were by appointment only with 1 singular person who had to tell you about their laundry list of health problems. We were told because it had been 3 months since we adopted this cat that they wouldn’t do anything about the fact that their cat infected our entire house with worms. He is an inside cat with no access to anything that would have given the cat worms (they claimed fleas or hunting rodents which he has neither) so the only cause is this shelter. The only positive is the front desk staff was lovely when we first adopted him.

Facility is clean. I went here yesterday and filled out all my appropriate paperwork, I was told the wait would be an hour. I had not one issue waiting. There were approximately 20 employees I would say on the floor, after about an hour they called my name, and then told me I wouldn’t be able to see any dogs because they were closing soon. That would’ve been incredibly pertinent information while I was sitting there for an hour that I wouldn’t be able to see any of the dogs because they were closing. The next day after they checked the paperwork for my cats, they told me that I wouldn’t be a good candidate for adoption because my healthy indoor cat, one of two, hadn’t been to the vet in 3 to 4 years and my other cat went this year. Ok… meanwhile, the dog that I saw (only through glass of course) yesterday had eaten a bed the day before, but it was explained to me that they don’t do x-rays unless they think there’s an issue, but that they didn’t find all the pieces of the bed when they were picking it up, and then he could’ve ingested some metal or things as such. Also that he had been returned by a family once already but they didn’t know why because they don’t ask. Isn’t that important information? Did he bite someone? Get sick? Attack another dog? I came in there to help a dog, to rescue a dog, I own my own home, it is clean, larger, and I have a large backyard and no children . I have someone who’s at home all day, so the dog would never be alone, and I have the financial capability to give a dog a good life. So to me it seems like I’d be the perfect candidate, but not here!

The staff were very courteous. The staff member that showed the cats to me was very knowledgeable about most of them. I was able to find a kitty to bring home.

Truly beautiful with all the updates (haven't been in a while), friendly staff, animals looked well cared for and had much more space which was so nice to see, love the opportunities to help out, too, and the bottle drive program. We will always save our bottles and cans for them now!

Good, clean friendly place. Veterinarians in scrubs wandering in and out. One came and took a little pooch for an amble in the car lot. This place really needs a serious sign, either by the road, or on the building. I tried to find a person and could not. I donated a big box of toys and a giant sack of (new: $60) cat food here 2 months ago. No water tower for guests, it's along a dry park in the middle of no place! :)

Friendly, fast and efficient. Can be crowded but the staff was great to work with. Ready parking. Kept pretty clean. Pretty knowledgeable about the animals.

This is very well kept and clean. There is a pet reception area where you can visit the various animals for adoption. They also have a pet food pantry and a surgical suite. A fenced area outdoors caters to becoming familiar with your prospective pet and meet and greet your other pets. There is a designated bootle drive drop off area to help with the costs incurred by the shelter in order to offer community classes, low cost procedures, stray animal management, and general cost and care for housing animals. This property was upgraded with a new beautifully maintained building. Parking and entrance is accessible for handicapped visitors. Please be aware of the drop off policy in regard to surrendering a pet which includes calling for an appointment. The shelter can be full and unable to receive your pet but can have alternative surrender options.
