February 2023 by Sascha F.
It has taken me almost 2 years to write this review. I did not want to tarnish a camps reputation based on our horrible experience in the summer of 2021. I was made to believe that this was really just "my kid". Since 2021, I have heard many stories that are the exact same as ours, just yesterday another one of my sisters friends had the SAME experience. I feel obligated to share. My son went to Schodack in the summer of 2021 and will never try another sleepaway camp as he is truly scarred (as are we as parents). He is missing this beautiful opportunity because Schodack is ill equipped to handle children. To sum it up, the directors and owners called me at least 3 DAYS A WEEK to tell me my child was sad, homesick, "emotionally distressed" and that this was not normal. I was under the impression homesickness was normal for a first time camper (I was homesick when I first went to sleepaway). Regardless, after a couple of weeks (he was only there for 3 and 1/2), they asked that I COME AND GET HIM because his "sadness wasn't good for the other children. Since that summer I have heard from numerous families through friends of friends that have too said the owners called them and asked them to also PICK UP THEIR HOMESICK CHILDREN! I have never heard of such a thing and feel truly sad that my son missed out on what could have been a great experience, he will never give sleepaway another try after his awful Schodack experience. Terrible Directors & Terrible Owners. I do NOT recommend sending your children here.

We brought our University's men's and women's cross country teams to Camp Schodack for a portion of our pre-season. To say that the teams had an totally awesome experience over 4 days would be a huge understatement! The camp offers a tremendous amount of resources to facilitate everything we required for a full 4 days of training. We had practice sessions in the pool, the large field, yoga room, weight and fitness facility just to name a few. Food was excellent and plentiful, counselors were absolutely fantastic and had great patience with our athletes as they maneuvered the low/high ropes course and the climbing tower. We will definitely be back next pre-season. Highly recommend as a great XC team practice facility.

Was there for an Adult weekend and wedding. My first ever experience staying in a log cabin. Bathrooms need to be upgraded but I was able to enjoy the atmosphere. The food was pretty good and the staff was very friendly. Plenty of activities to keep the younger adults busy.

Both my children go to Schodack and I am very pleased with everything about it. I was very nervous at first. Would they like it, would they make friends easily, would they be put in the right bunk, would they wash up, put on sunblock etc....All my fears were quickly dismissed. The first few days there was lots of contact with staff who I could tell really knew my children. I heard clear details on what they were doing, but also I could tell they knew my kids. It was not generic statements like “they enjoyed the lake” or “yes they have friends and are getting along well”. I immediately felt better and knew they were in the right place. This will be the third summer both my kids go to camp and my daughter has a count down to when camp starts....FYI she starts this the day she comes home from camp. Also I find it very interesting hearing what their favorite activities are. My son of course said basketball and inter camp games, but he also said Friday night “services”. My daughter just say everything, she was born to be at summer camp and I am so happy that she has Schodack as her summer home.

Schodack is a spectacular camp. My children have made life long friends and had the best summers attending camp. It is a truly special place!

My two children have attended Camp Schodack the past few summers and will continue to for years to come. They love camp, especially the fun activities, camp friends and wonderful staff. I love that it builds their independence, fosters their passions and creativity and is an electronics free, back to basics summer. Thanks Schodack!

Camp Schodack was my home away from home for 10 years! It's my favorite place on Earth!

Absolutely the worst, campers are little devils and completely took over my town. Campers were harassing natives and using foul language.

Well run camp, beautiful grounds, devoted staff. My nephews have been going there for years and couldn’t be happier.

My 2 daughters have been attending this camp for the past 6 years and I can't say enough about how much they love going each summer! They have made some tremendous friends from other areas that they would never have gotten to meet if they stayed in NYC all summer! Great people with great values run the camp and that's why the girls keep going back!

Schodack is a very special place to experience new skills, make lifetime friends, and learn about living together & getting along. The friends made are yours for life. The camp is like a family filled with warmth and tradition.

Our grandsons were campers for years at Schodack. Every visiting day when we were at camp we saw why they loved it. Camp Schodack was a second home to them. The staff is warm and caring. There is a special indescribable feeling that runs through the camp. Of course, there are many activities to partake in on the beautiful grounds. My grandsons loved camp so much that when they reached the eligible age they became counselors. Camp Schodack has played an important part of who they are today.

Was luck to have Paul have me come from the UK to be a camp councillor in the early 80s.... and the friends I made and the life lessons learned there have been instrumental in my life... Camp Schodack is the fertile ground for growth... step in. .. and forever want to be back there.
