So disappointed by the situation I was put in after I filled out an application to adopt an animal and made an appointment to meet him, which would have been in three days from when I called. I spoke to Sara who never once mentioned that adoptions happen on a first come basis. She failed to mention that there could be a chance someone could fill out an application after I did and call after me to schedule an appointment before I was scheduled to come in, and potentially adopt the animal. Had I known that, I would’ve planned to come in sooner. In fact, her exact words were that if it all went well during our visit, I could take him home at the end. I put time and effort into clearing my schedule and getting my home ready to welcome what I thought would be our new pet, and my daughter was super excited to have her first pet as well. Based on the information we got about the cat, I had no hesitation that we wouldn’t have adopted him. It is completely unfair and inconsiderate that the process was handled this way. I never got a genuine apology from Sara either, and that is why I am leaving this review. I hope this will be helpful for others to know that this is how they handle adoptions. Hopefully this will help prevent a similar situation from happening again in the future.

I've adopted 2 cats at HSW and have gotten to know them better through their TNR program. We are so lucky to have them caring for the animals, they all do the best job and have amazing and dedicated volunteers.

The staff here are incredible! Dedicated, caring, and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond in caring for all of these animals! They take great care to find the right fit for each animal and a new family. I was there looking to adopt a cat and also saw how they have to put up with some of the not so nice humans who just come in without an appointment or call with outrageous requests. They are saints!

After I donated thousands of dollars to this shelter (both in money and supplies- as I live locally and adopted from them once when it was still Pet Rescue of Larchmont-- they REFUSED to take in a kitten I trapped after I rented a trap from them. The person I dealt with was Sara Etkin- who in addition to being rude, nasty and condescending, told me I should not trap the kitten until I know who would take him. I told her the kitten is by my workplace, and the other kitten- most likely from the same mother was recently found DEAD. I said I was afraid this little one is going to die. She specifically said "He is not going to die. Cats don't die like that.." The next day, it was getting increasingly cold and it was SNOWING!. And I was not going to leave the kitten there. I trapped him, and when I called, Sara AGAIN said "did not we have this conversation? You have to find a place for him." I was saying: Are not you a humane society????? Sara is ANYTHING BUT HUMANE. I also told her that years ago we trapped an older cat and had issues bringing him in. Sara said: "And were not you TOLD that you need to have a place for it?" And I said "NO. Of course not!" When I went to return the crate, I confronted Sara and the other really nasty manager whose name I believe is Tiffany Rivera, Tiffany, told me "Keep Your Attitude in Valhalla". She said that because ONLY TODAY they actually asked where I trapped the kitty who they were willing to leave out for DEAD. I NEVER told them the cat was not from this area. NOW they were looking for an excuse to brush me off.The bottom line is if I was one of those low lives who just leave their pets outside their doors, they would HAVE NO CHOICE but to take the kitten. BUT because I was honest and wanted to do the right thing, they treated me LIKE GABARGE. And I am not exaggerating. On my phone call with Sara, she was talking to me like I was a little kid: "Did not we have this conversation??? What did I tell you???"From now on this shelter will get NO PENNY from me until BOTH TIFFANY and SARA are FIRED. I hope the board president sees this review:Please immediately get rid of Sara Etkin and Tiffany Ramirez. THEY MUST NOT WORK AT A HUMANE SOCIETY.IF I listened to the Sara, the kitten I saved would have been dead by now.Oh, and when I told Sara my neighbor was trying to help me, she had the AUDACITY to tell me: " Why don't your neighbor take him!" This is truly DESPICABLE. Sara Etkin MUST GO!

Horrible place, we found a cat with her kitten and called and got no help. So we had to take them over and they still were useless and rude.

The name “Humane society of Westchester” is laughable. This organization has proved to me they are anything but humane.

Customer service is the absolute worse. Beverly, works for an animal shelter and yet is extremely rude over the phone. Makes you not want to continue to engage with an agency that can employe someone that would speak to the public in such a condescending, impudent and unpleasant manner.

My husband and I adopted "Zena" yesterday. She is an 8 mos. old tabby that immediately stole our hearts. When I made the appointment to visit the shelter, I was introduced to "Zena" and I fell in love with her right away. Once I brought her home shes been acting like she's lived here forever. She loves belly rubs and sitting in our laps. She loves talking, playing with toys and following us around. She is such a beautiful kitty.I want to thank Shawn for choosing Zena as a candidate for us. We are so lucky to have her as a new family member. So thank you again Shawn and thank you New Rochelle Animal Shelter.
