This gym has good equipment, always in good working order and the people are friendly alone with their being parking and a reasonable price

Now that the former, unprofessional, wannabe bully of an owner has been FINALLY relieved of his position? I shall instantly bump my review from 1 star to 5 stars. He was legitimately the ONLY problem and a HUGE problem at that. THANK YOU, CORPORATE! You are seen as TRUE HEROES!

Since Retro Fitness Corporate took over from the former owner the change is like night and day. The staff is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere has changed for the better. I had cancelled my membership but chose to renew it after seeing the changes. Its unfortunate it took 6 years and countless incidents with the former owner to get to this point

After a recent experience with a member that left me wary of ever returning (won't give any details here but suffice it to say that I did, indeed, report it to corporate after the now-former-owner handled the situation in a way that was less-than-professional to say the least), I received a nice letter from corporate stating that this Retro Fitness would now be under corporate control, & the issues with the now-former owner (& the member) are moot. This change is long overdue, as the gym had seen better days irrespective of this incident. Based on the testimony of other members here, who indicate that the employees are also now different, I suspect that this means a fresh start for everyone at the gym. I certainly hope this is true, because I've come to really grow fond of the people in there, and we'd become a bit of a community. One day at a time, I suppose.PS: Just as a gentle, but pointed, life rule -- one that I've learned after nearly 25 years in the entertainment industry -- be GENUINELY KIND to EVERYONE you encounter, not just people who YOU "think" are "important." (And gentle readers: people who are GENUINELY kind don't have to TRY to be. They simply are.) You never know what - or, who - people know. ;)Because people who know how to get attention from those who matter don't have to beg for it. They just get it. Too bad some people had to learn the hard way. ;)

If I could give this gym zero stars I would. Rundown gym, cliquey culture, and the nastiest animal of an owner I have ever had the displeasure of encountering in my life. What a POS. Unlimited members get access to any Retro in the country, and you'd be best served to go to literally every other Retro gym in the vicinity. The owner's reputation precedes him and every other gym (even those that aren't Retro gyms) know all about him. He thinks that makes him a "gangster." He should only know he looks like an idiot. And is.

A really quality gym for those that want to be around “good people” and want a broad spectrum of weights and apparatus’s! The people who work in the gym always have a smile and go above and beyond to help you.A Plus for those that want a community gym where everyone knows and respects each other!

Worst experience at all. Management rude and absolutely bullying. He clearly bypass the franchising procedures (for guests). I was with my son, appropriate age, that I registered at my first visit, and even after I had provided the birth certificate, Manager told that I was not a legal guardian, because my son hadn't my last name, as his last name. Even my son having my last name as his MIDDLE name What'ssssssss????He probably doesn't like our type of middle names and last names, and had created this embarrassed situation to get ride of us. He got it!!! Good job!

Good gym but some personal trainers (Carla) are very hostile if you spend more than 30 seconds between sets.

The negative reviews I see here are may be people that have had a rough day. I can say I am in range of three retro fitness gyms and this is the cleanest. Weights are placed where it needs to be. It was a pleasure meeting the owner well rounded guy.I live in Pennsylvania and come to NY every week this is my go to gym. I stay in queens village and the retro that is 5 mins from me made me drive to this location. Amazing staff

The club owner Richard stated to me today after attending the gym for several months, that I’m no longer allowed to go to the Lawson retro fitness location because I didn’t purchase the unlimited membership from him. Regardless of membership which allows me to go any retro fitness….. I do recommend anyone to join the retro fitness location on Lawson. He sent an employee to kick me out with out warning

The gym should be a safe space to clear mind and meet goals but my interaction with the gym's staff made me feel uncomfortable and degraded today. Here's how my visit went.....I Went to this gym for the first time to spend time with my brother. The girl at the desk was really nice and helped show us how to complete the guest waiver. I walked in workout bag in hand to the weight area, placing my bag and hoodie near the workout bench I occupied . 15 minutes later i was approached by a male who DID NOT introduce himself but proceeded to yell at me for placing my gym bag on the floor. As I tried to process his attitude and manner I stared at him for a few seconds . In no way am i making this racial but i am a black woman. For a person to immediately address with me attitude is as if it was an expectation that an attitude would reciprocate. He continued to yell at me with an Attitude as if I couldn't not comprehend his instructions to either put the bag in a locker or up front. His tone and manners made me feel uncomfortable and I repeated his request so that he can understand that I heard him clear enough . I said okay without confrontation and he said Thank you very much in the most loud condescending way. I felt embarrassed but I continued to workout to finish my session . Had this "individual" who did not introduce himself as an owner or manager, introduce himself and explain to me the rules and ask for me to place it in a safe location i would have just said no problem and apologized. I had no lock and was unaware of this gym's rules so I took my bag to the front and explained to the girl at the desk what had transpired and asked if should kindly keep my bag upfront until I finished my workout. I was able to confine my workout for 20 more minutes and I just wanted to leave. I left feeling very disrespected and I would not recommend this gym to anyone unless you want to feel like the gum under your shoe. My safe space was overpowered by someone who does not know how to treat his clients with respect and has no desire to neither . Prior poor reviews seem to carry this gym's credibility to the ground. What should have been a good day at the gym with my brother turned into one of the worst experiences in my life in a gym. I have no desire to return no worries but I will leave this with intention to protect other people from encountering this man at the gym. He's located in the office next to the desk.

Recently moved back to the area after getting out of the military, this gym aside from being clean and organized has been nothing but terrible. Every time you walk in its like you’re in a bad episode of Euphoria. People hog the machines and are more focused on being on their phones than actually working out. The gym is small and already limited to their equipment and benches. Today though, i had 35 pounds on the seated chest press and let the weights down to where it made a noise. Not a slam. A gentleman from management felt the need to come over to me and let me know not to slam the weights becuase i was going to “break a screw in the platform” in a condescending tone. All in all who am i to argue but if your equipment is going to break because of 35lbs i rather not workout there at all and i dont need someone breathing down my neck as i workout. If you’re serious about fitness and working towards your goals and value your time, i suggest going elsewhere. This place is a joke. Not worth the money. Its an off brand planet fitness.

Stay away! Scam artists. Bruce (owner) and Julie (manager) are the rudest people and will rob your money. They are trying to rob my 18 year old son as we speak and won't let him back in the gym because i cancelled his membership during the pandemic when the gym was closed. He was 15 then and it was my membership. I paid for it, not my minor son. Now 18, my son went and opened up his own membership in his own name with his own credit card and they took his deposit then a week later told him he is responsible for the money owed on my cancelled membership from 2 1/2 years ago. I tried to reason with the owner but he told me to "F-OFF". I filed a complaint with the BBB and plan on taking them to court. I hope they get just what they deserve. D-BAGS!

AVOID THIS GYMI signed up for a membership and after my workout requested to upgrade my membership. Julie was working the front (apparently a manager) and told me that she couldn't do it from her computer. She wrote a phone number on a piece of paper and advised to me to call and cancel the membership "under a 3 day clause" (which doesn't exist) and than resign up the next day.I followed her guidance, and when I went back in she told me I couldn't work out that day and had no answer as to why. I told her I did what she said, I can just re sign up. She told me not to sign back up, she isn't sure why the computer wouldn't allow me in. I called later that day to get some answers and she still had none. I called in the evening and spoke to Lee the evening manager who told me that "because the membership was cancelled so quick, I was banned from the gym". I obviously told him what the morning manager had advised me to do, and he said he would talk to the owner. I called day after day trying to see when this would be resolved. The owner was never available to speak to me. They eventually started ignoring my calls. I went in to speak to the owner in person, but he wouldn't come speak with me. They told me he would call me. They told me that daily.I still haven't heard from them, its been 3 weeks. Luckily I was able to call the billing company and recoup a full reimbursement, but we aware this business has predatory practices to snake people out of money. Im not surprised they are F rated on the BBB and not accredited. With owners who cant handle issues like adults, and employees who have no accountability, im surprised its still in business. Save yourself the stress, go elsewhere. Plenty of local options with better staff and equipment.
