Old dumpy rooms

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Clark's Beach Motel and our recommendation is to avoid it. The rating of 1 1/2 stars on Yelp speaks for itself and I should have known better.
My husband had several bites (total of 20+ bites, see photos) appear a short while after each time he slept on our bed. I did not get bitten; however different individuals can experience different immune reactions after being bit.
The owner, Garret, was very responsive in checking the mattress and we appreciated that.
Garret's conclusion, however, was entirely unacceptable. He said there was no evidence of bedbugs in the mattress and my husband was likely bitten on a hike, etc. Newly hatched bed bug nymphs are tiny and can be nearly see-through, making them almost impossible to detect. And yes, nymphs bite humans!
My husband is certain he was getting bit by something in the bed. He asked Garret if we can we can either 1. get a new mattress or 2. move to a different room (there were many vacant rooms available). Garret said no to both options. My husband asked why we couldn't get a new mattress (he claimed that the issue wasn't the mattress) and why we couldn't switch rooms (Garret would have had to pay an additional cleaning fee). My husband said we would be willing to pay the additional cleaning fee (Garret said no). We would have been more than happy to assist Garret and his team in exchanging the mattress. Garret said he would not accommodate us as we trashed the room. Yes, our belongings were strewn all over and we had accumulated garbage in one corner (there is no daily maid service at Clark's) but we never abused the room in any way. We have stayed in many hotels and motels, and in many air b n b's over the years; we have never, ever received a poor review. Attached are pictures of the state in which we left the room.
At $180 per night (incidentally the mattresses were awful - when my 150 lb husband sat on the edge of ours, the corner sunk a foot downward), customers should expect more.
Garrett's daughter Haley and his wife Heather were polite and very accommodating.
Shame on you, Garret, for treating customers this way.
Avoid Clark's Beach Motel. There are many other nice options in Old Forge, Eagle Bay, and Inlet.

Other than cold shower and having to go get my own towls because both rooms were rented weren't made up (and yes we had the sign for it to be made up on the door) and when I told them my garages were stuffed she asked me to bring the garage to the office which I said no I'm not carrying all that garbage all the way up to the office! Craziest thing I've ever been asked. Other than that the place is really nice .

This place is great the negative reviews must be from uppity out of towners that need constant catering to.

I mean this motel really only excels because of location within old forge and if you opt for a room overlooking the lake — the views are great. There is a pool onsite that guests can use until 830pm. Beyond that, this place is your average run down motel. The rooms are dated. The beds have spring mattresses that probably haven’t been changed in 30 years — the chair was more comfortable to sleep on. I woke up both nights in pain and my body stiff. The room is stuffy even if you have the windows open. The wife and kids said they saw a mouse on the balcony the first night. I honestly would not recommend anyone to stay here unless you absolutely want to be within town limits.
Nearby activities: All the shops + water safari

Aside from the leftovers in our refrigerator, the macaroni noodles on the floor, the dirty shower, and unpleasant staff-this place really does the job. They have air conditioning and the location doesn’t get much better. Pick your battles here.
Edited to add: a common theme here on your reviews is you and your ability to speak to customers-perhaps someone in our party or others would feel inclined to speak about things that come up if you had any couth when handling things that happen. Good luck in the future, there will not be a “future” for us at Clark’s Beach Motel.

I was so pleased with the service I received from this business. They went above and beyond with their customer service to assist my family and I during our stay. My husband and I met the owners and they are the kindest people, super helpful with ideas for places to visit and eat. The motel is in the perfect location, super close to the water park, shops and right across the street from the beach! The room super clean and big with an awesome porch with the most beautiful lakefront view! My kids had a blast staying here and swimming in the pool. Couldn’t have asked for a better vacation spot! We will 100% be coming back.

The owners are wonderful hosts. They were very welcoming and assisted with anything I needed. Stayed there over 4th of July weekend. Rooms were air conditioned and very clean. Will absolutely be back!

This place totally sucks!! Front desk rude!!! Got there with a 5 year old who wanted to swim and there pools been closed since February!!!! Who runs a motel and doesn’t fix their pool for months!!
Plus I saw nowhere in the amenities section that it was down. They should not be allowed to charge the same rate when what they brag about on their web page does not exist. I plan to go all over social media with this so some other child doesn’t suffer for their ignorance.
As well then went in the room and no one even had the courtesy to turn on the air conditioning.
Looser place for sure!!

The location in old forge can't be beat, it's walkable to everything and has lake views. The rooms are clean and well maintained, but very dated. My family of 4, 2 adults and 2 young children, stayed in a Small Efficiency, which had a small kitchen, living room, and porch on the first floor and spacious bedroom and a bathroom on the second floor. Our only complaint about the room is in bathroom was tiny and a terrible layout. We were also disappointed that the pool was closed during our stay, as this was the reason we selected this hotel.
Rooms: Clean, well maintained but dated
Walkability: Location is walkable to all of the shops and restaurants in town, as well as the playground and beach.

I have to be honest. I've never stayed here. But if I needed to, I would. I've considered it a few times but they were full.

I really have no words other than rude. They know their location is prime and have no care how they treat their guests as people will continue to stay there. It's reasonably priced and right in town. Would be humbling for them to loose their business. I'll pay more staying at an air bnb then ever booking here again. If you do book, go through third party and purchase insurance. There is absolutely no refund policy the day of. Star rating is required but really is a zero.

My friend and I recently traveled from Alaska to Oldforge for Paul Case celebration of life ceremony. We stayed at Clarks beach house 0F. We have all heard the phrase they rolled out the red carpet for us. That my friends is just what Garret and Heather did. The hotel was booked Full when I checked online , so I figured I’d check in person. Just our luck they had just gotten a cancellation. We not only enjoyed their company, we also enjoyed company from other occupants of the hotel. Super fun time, excellent location you are literally in walking distance for every activity in old Forge. I’ve traveled the world, and I highly recommend the Clarks beach house 0F all of your Oldforge activities . Keep up the good work! We will see you again when the snow flies!Noteworthy details: Walking distance to all of Old Forge activities.
