About The Alling Coverlet Museum
The Alling Coverlet Museum of Historic Palmyra is one of the most unique textile museums in New York State — and one of the hidden gems of the Finger Lakes region. Located in the historic canal town of Palmyra, it is part of Historic Palmyra, a five-museum complex dedicated to preserving local and American history.
What makes the museum especially important is that it houses the largest collection of American hand-woven coverlets in the United States. These beautifully patterned woven bed coverings date mainly from the 1800s and showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of early American weavers.
The museum was named after Mrs. Merle Alling, a Rochester collector who assembled an extraordinary collection of coverlets and textile artifacts.
