One month update: We rescued our Maisey Mae from Almost Home and we couldn’t be happier. I recently needed a vaccination and a nail clipping and Dr. Lou and Marianne took excellent care of us. When you adopt from Almost Home you have a family for life. They also referred me to Hounds Town, which was such a great recommendation which we are now utilizing for socialization Thank you, Almost Home!We had a lovely experience with Brittany at Almost Home earlier today. After filling out the application online, we were invited in to discuss what we are looking for. Brittany carefully considered our specific needs to compile a list of potential options. She was open and honest and low pressure. She truly wanted to collect all the necessary information to help us find the best match. I will be following up with them tomorrow about our decision ? I hope the rest of the process goes as smoothly ?

The people are extremely caring and have a great love for the animals. They have cats, dogs and rabbits. They will take animals from other shelters who have been there a long time and help them find homes.

They gave me a sick cat and said he was 2 years old. Went to my own vet and she immediately said the cat was actually around 5-8 years old.

ETA: Look at the response below. I left this review over two whole months ago and that's the reply they chose to leave. What weaksauce, boilerplate, uninspired, cowardice rotflmfao you gotta go anywhere but here, folks trustFar too stringent adoption standards. Passive aggressive, gaslighting, misleading interviews and home visits. My dogs and cats live healthy, long, balanced, happy lives. So what if my family's home doesn't have a fenced yard and it's not a bougie, pretty perfectly manicured 5,000 sq ft hermetically sealed model McMansion? I'm sorry what. Every RESCUE dog needs a fence yard and 4500k sqft individually owned home? No renters, no disableds, no unfence yards, no special needs, no low income, no nothing but the wealthiest and perfectest may apply? Follow your gd fn mission statement. You're trying to get dogs and cats into loving homes, not Kardashian yacht Barbie dream homes. Spare me, and your applicants, and your standards. Me and my family members are home during the day, unlike most households, who lock their dogs outside or in crates 18 hours a day. I'll stick with Bideawee thank you very much lol never trying to adopt from here again way too cliquey and uptight and judgey. All thumbs down ?? plus WHAT HOURS. This place is open for five whole minutes a day what a joke** also you meant "ensure" not "insure". another lol

I love what they do here. From rescuing animals and caring for them, to offering foster services to adoptions. They truly care for the well being of these animals. We recently adopted a puppy from there who they saved from an out of state kill shelter. Without their help we would not have our newest member of our family. Thank you and a big kudos to all the volunteers and staff for their hard work and dedication.

My husband an I went in to look for kittens a soon as I opened the door the smell of feces was so over powering I had to walk out for fresh air . I went back to being we have to fill out paperwork. After that they took as to another room to see kittens but there were maybe 4 a they were hiding in fear the room was so small . The woman was rude an I couldn’t wait to get out of the cause the smell was nauseating.

Although we didn’t end up adopting from Almost Home (we fell in love with a dog at another shelter), we did go through the adoption process. Almost Home was clean and all of the volunteers and employees were kind, knowledgeable, and had the rescue pups as their #1 priority. We got to meet rescue dogs Bicorn and Melina. They have a wonderful little outdoor area for meet and greets. I would definitely recommend this rescue to others looking to add to their forever family.

Our family adopted Jasper last weekend, and we couldn't be happier. The adoption process was thorough, and although it did take a little longer than we anticipated, it is understandable as to why. Almost Home is very particular about who they will allow to adopt. They seem very keen on making a difference for these animals. This is one organization that I can feel good about. Their heart is in the right place. As for Jasper, he is just the sweetest dog ever. He gets along great with our other dogs and has really taken to our children. We couldn't be happier! Thank you to all of the volunteers at Almost Home!

Amazing place to adopt. I loved volunteering here. Most of the negative comments on here are just sad or one sided views because of entitlement. Almost home is not just like any rescue to give their animals to just anyone. They carefully consider who is a perfect fit for the ANIMAL. They make sure the animals go to who best fits the ANIMAL, not who YOU want. Just because you want a certain animal (dog for example) doesn't mean the dog you wanted is a good fit. It's not about you it's about the animal. Some people need to understand that. Both staff and volunteers work hard keeping the place as clean as possible as well. It's a rescue that houses animals that constantly are using the bathroom. It isn't going to smell like peaches and roses lol. And you can't use certain products to clean because it is harmful to the animals. I wish people would do more research before judging or acting out online because something didn't go the way they wanted it to. Also to any rumors, this is a non kill shelter. The ONLY time HUMANE euthanasia is used is if the veterinarian says the animal is too sick OR the animal has bitten multiple people and even with rehabilitation with a professional trainer, the animal has not progressed. Don't bash on a place that is filled with both Staff and volunteers that absolutely adore all the animals there

I cannot say enough good stuff about this rescue. I've been fostering for them for years and they are incredible about saving chained dogs.

My family and I rescued Money (now Koda) from Almost Home a few months ago and we couldn't be happier! He quickly became a great new addition to our family! The adoption process was extremely efficient, and you could tell all the volunteers took great care in finding each animal the perfect home.I will be recommending this shelter to anyone that is looking to rescue! Thank you so much Almost Home!!!

The adoption process is a little haphazard. The communication between the volunteers/employees is lacking. We came in looking to adopt a cat. When we came in there was no one at the front desk and no way to acknowledge we’d gotten there. We’re pretty patient people and waited 5-10 minutes before anyone showed up.The place did smell pretty bad, but that’s really expected when you have 25-30 cats running around cage-less. We were let into the cat area and cats were just loose everywhere. We were told to avoid a certain one bc he was a little ferocious - why he was out and about in general if he’s a risk to visitors I cannot answer. I was initially excited that the cats were out and about so we could easily see how a kitty interacted with us and see if they were meant for us.The kitty we put in an application for walked up to me and started biting my shoelaces and he let me hold him and touch his paws and was purring. I knew he was the one and he was precious. He had an adoption pending already, but luckily for us it fell through. The communication on the progress of the application was a little dodgy and we’d have to wait for a specific person to be working in order to get any updates or answers. When we were finally able to take him home he adjusted really well and we love him so much. It was a rough first few months though. Due to the living conditions of the cats he was very sick and malnourished. He was 4-5 months old and 4 pounds when we adopted him. We took him to the vet immediately as he was booger-y and sneezing and was constantly scratching. He had cat flu/respiratory infection, eye infection, ear irritation and buildup, and RINGWORM - which took at least 6 months to be clear of.We called the shelter to let them know and to get their other 25-30 cats checked. His vet bills were insane but we knew we wouldn’t get even our $25 deposit back from them. We love our kitty and he’s healthy and thriving now. I hope this shelter is more diligent about communication and the health and safety of their cats.

Uppity yuppy standards for unrealistic rescuers. No reason to deny and prolong a dog's adoption to a loving caring family like mine just cause of nasty arbitrary stringent standards. Me and my family are excellent caretakers. But because there's tiny clutter and no fenced yard we weren't "acceptable" adopters. ALL of my previous dogs were healthy, strong, never lost; lived til they passed, safe, of old age in our arms. This place needs to stop with their sh---y "need" standards and start looking at who is actually gonna take care of the adoptee pups.
