Im really sad to write this review but it’s much needed. I wish there was 0 stars. Two years ago I rescued a half blind kitten from here. I thought she was a special case and decided when I was ready for another that I’d go back because of the warm experience I had the first time. I went specifically to meet Brix. He appeared healthy in photos and when I arrived his eye was being targeted by a severe upper respiratory like many of the kittens I saw throughout. I was told most everyone was on medication and up to date with testing, vaccines, spay/neuter. A little black kitten named Narwhal caught my attention and tore at my heart strings. I ended up taking him home day of , no references called just some paperwork and he got to come home. I set up a vet apt asap as I do with every new animal I bring into the house. First things first , he was sick with a very strong upper respiratory that was starting to also target his eyes (if left untreated would target him exactly like my half blind , herpes positive cat I knowingly got from Yates)
Second he had a case of ear mites. Third after a week he developed a bloated stomach and came with soft stool. We’re now waiting to test him for worms tomorrow. Forth, he was never given a combo test specifically for felv+ (feline leukemia). Should I of checked before taking him and not trusted the shelter. Yes. But considering the friendly experience I had the first time I really didn’t feel the need to question these people who I thought knew what they were doing before adopting pets out to the public. This could’ve risked all 3 of my cats , but luckily my vets test came out negative for narwhal (pep). I want to end by saying I know rescues and shelters aren’t perfect esp when they get a high amount of intake. I know the responsibility you sign up for when adopting an animal with unknown health issues. But there is 0 excuse for lack of testing and treatment on animals that you’re planning to adopt out to the public. PERIOD. And that’s where I stand 110%. I’m not mad at all about paying for his ears and upper respiratory treatment, it’s not uncommon for those issues to arise in the environment he was in. But I’m very disappointed in this shelter for risking my other 3 cats lives by not testing narwhal (pep) for feline leukemia. The end.

❤️❤️🐈⬛ It’s been a few months since I walked in and left in moments with this baby. She has been 1 of the best cats I’ve owned since the loss of my other fur babies.

Told a dog was good with kids. Dog bit me after 2 hours. Told them they sent a (animal trainer) here she said that “ the problem is with you”. I said ok. Had the dog for 3 more weeks bit my 5 year old twice and my son (8) once. And my niece. Had my wife take the dog to them. They said that it was our fault. How by feeding it and petting it. These people are a joke. They care about the animals not the people. If the dog killed my kid for petting it who would be at fault then. This place should be shut down.

I started volunteering by helping out a local, pregnant stray cat, which turned into fostering kittens, and then helping out at the the center. As a volunteer, I've found the Yates Humane Society animal-centered and working so hard to help pets in upstate NY. Animals are well cared for, cages are cleaned, and pets are socialized. They've had record years of finding home for pets! It's amazing!

So impressed with the staff, attention to detail and the overall environment focused on the wellbeing of animals. We lost a dog in January 2024. I was grieving incredibly and wanted to give back. I started to help walk dogs on the weekends and was impressed with the staff, facility and volunteers. A common theme of love for animals and creating a better environment and life for those that need it. One weekend I met Danny and we had an instant connection that I could not let go… I went home and told my husband and a week later he came home with us. He is an incredibly sweet dog and he is enriching our lives as much as we’re his! We love him so much. Thank you to this team- keep doing great things! You change so many lives along the way and you’re doing incredible things!

My partner and I adopted our newest canine family member from here over last weekend and it was a flawless experience. The shelter put us in contact with her foster mom, Jude, as soon as we filled out the application. She was amazing at assessing our vibe and was so supportive in our search for a sister for our big boy Benson! The staff there was fabulous and knowledgeable and they had the perfect location for a wooded meet and greet walk💕 The adoption fee and vet services are beyond reasonable. We drove an hour and half to get her there and it was 100% worth it. Even days later Jude has been checking in on her and her brother and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate it. I can’t recommend these guys enough!!! Thanks🌻
