The worst experience at a mechanic's ever! I never write a bad review because you never know when someone is just having a bad day but this was truly awful. I spent $1000 at this shop to have them put in a transmission on my RV Van. They told me it'll be $700, began working on it and realize that RVs have RV parts that are in the way of a transmission LOL. So they hiked the price up to $1000. I felt sorry for them and paid it anyway. The next day it begins to have problem shifting gears, I drive an hour to come back, wait 7 hours for them to look at it again. It turns out they forgot to adjust the detent cable. The mechanic who installed wasn't familiar with vehicles like mine. Christ. Who know how much damage this did. Next day I go to dump my tanks it turns out they screwed up my sewage pipe. I drive another hour back again, wait another 4 hours to be seen. The guy is "fixing" my sewage pipe when I see that he is now hanging it so low that it's bound to drag on the ground when I pull into a low parking lot. I point it out to him and he curses me out. He has the nerve to tell me that I am just trying to make trouble, you know by driving 4 hours in two days in order to have him fix the things he has broken after paying him $1000 to fix my van. He insists that he told me that he doesn't work on RVs, which he never did. Despicable is the only word that comes to mind. Go ANYWHERE else. These guys are incompetent and nasty. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. They were SUPER nice at first. Don't be fooled!! (I am posting this under a different name for privacy reasons...)

We do most of our own vehicle work ourselves when we are able to (the internet is a wonderful thing and my husband's pretty handy, anyway), but when there comes a repair that's beyond our scope, or not feasible for whatever reason for us to do ourselves, and for things like inspections and when we need to buy used decent tires, Howie's is the place we've gone for as long as I can remember, including just a few days ago. We have never had an issue with any overcharging, repairs not being done or done right, too long time for repairs or any of that. The price is always more than fair and they're always great about calling when they're done and with a final price.
I guess one thing to be aware of if you're "fancier folk", is that their waiting room and facilities are not top of the line or luxury, by any means. It's not a problem for us since we generally drop our vehicles off the night before and drop the keys in the dropbox. But it's honestly not a place I'd want to wait and hang out a few hours if I was able to avoid it - not super comfortable and the furniture has seen much better days... and I'm not fancy folk! But I'd recommend you're better off getting a ride to and from if possible or dropping off night before.
Howie and Kevin are great, friendly folks and will happily talk your ear off when checking out if it's not busy! lol Our family goes to Howie's and I can't imagine that will ever change... convenient, competent, affordable and trustworthy!
