As a French boater looking to fill his French propane tanks, I must say I've been very kindly taken care of by Pattie and Kevin, the owners. They both have been of a great help as is was not that easy. But they did the job perfectly, with smile and a real sense of service. Moreover, Pattie, as an artist :-) was very gentle with my two daughters, drawing little sketches for them.Now I understand why this business is still here after more than 100 years in the same family, long life to them !

Avoid going here at all costs!!!. They completely deceived us about their pricing for BBQ cleaning services. Initially gave a quote to then try to charge twice as much. Rude and horrible customer service. Not to be trusted

Yelp has two profiles for the same Shields Hardware, the other profile is 2 stars. As other reviews mentioned, rude customer service - I have ever encountered worse service in my life - they do not like returns, get ready to be insulted if you try. They tried to accuse my husband of stealing a propane tank. It was our tank- we were just brining it in to refill. No apologies at all once they realized they were being extremely rude. Neither of us have ever gone back and we never will. We now use the Alper’s and are pleased with the great service.

I can't speak for Shields as plumbers, but I will say that when I went to the store a few days ago, the woman at the front was extremely helpful. I had a problem with an old faucet that had a leak, and I probably need to replace the cartridge, but it's so old that it's basically frozen in place. So right now I'm still mulling my options: Still try to replace cartridge? Just replace faucet?Anyway, she was terrific, very pleasant and attentive (even texted a photo of the cartridge to her brother for his expert opinion). I've been to Home Depot a lot, and good luck even finding someone in the plumbing aisle. She didn't put any pressure on me, at all, to replace the cartridge or buy a new faucet (she did show me a couple of options they had). In the end, if I replace the faucet, I may go with a cheaper option, just because we'll probably remodel the kitchen in a few years.But still: I wanted to repay her somehow for the patience and good customer service, so thought I would post this review. This isn't a one-off either: I was in there once before, and I got the same kind of good help and advice. I can't speak for any of the other low ratings here, only my own experience, which was very good!

Hands down the best customer service I've had in town ever. I got the best advice while repairing the drain pipe of the bathroom sink. The advice, not only saved me time but assured me a work around not expressed in any YouTube DIY tutorial. The women at the counter suggested various pipe fittings and tools, which all came in handy. She also confirmed my monkey wrench was the absolute wrong tool to use. I highly recommend Shields Hardware as a choice in town or for plumbing advice.

Reading the reviews I am surprised to see negative reviews. To those who had a bad experience I suggest be patient and try Shields again. I would call the owners Kevin or Patti to discuss further.I have shopped in Shields Hardware almost weekly for over 15 years. This family owned company and crew did not stop working through the pandemic. Shields Hardware was shipping PPE to my family around the country.Due to all of our recent "certifications" in virology I decided to start cleaning my tap water. If I must filter the air outside to remain healthy I should filter the water entering my home.These photos show the before and after install of the pre-filter. The main filter will be installed to the left.What is very scary is if you zoom in on the filter glass you can see "stuff" in the water being collected 1/2 hr after installation. ??I am very happy with Shields Plumbing! This was my first experience.Suggestion, if you live on Long Island do not procrastinate on installing a house filter.
