Avis as LGA/Flushing NY- make sure the vehicle is safe before leaving the lot!Rented a car March 2024. Worst experience ever! Not sure why bothering to select a vehicle as they give you whatever they have available. The vehicles are not clean and running the vehicle through the car wash does not count. The inside smelled of smoke so bad I had to drive with the windows open and even left the windows open when I parked the car to see if that would help but it did not. They are not inspecting what they get back from the returning renters. If the previous renter smoked in the car then it should be treated or taken out of circulation so other customers who are allergic to smokie or have asthma don't experience a medical crisis because of careless process. I know most businesses are experiencing staffing shortages but safety is key and some type of checklist should be implemented to ensure a vehicle is at least in safe and decent condition to drive. The vehicle I was given had brake issues, the wipers did not work(in the middle of a rain storm is when I found this out), the console buttons were stuck together and did not allow for the real defroster to turn on so the visibility in the rear window was impeded. This is the last rental for me.. I have learned to deal with not getting a clean vehicle from Avis but I am not willing to jeopardize the safety of my family or myself. Safety should be paramount and I feel like this last rental was an epic failure.

I’ve been renting from Avis for almost 13 yrs now and this company is just going downhill. Back in January my family and I came up and had a vehicle reservation and got to the airport and had to wait over an hour for transportation that NEVER showed up. We had to get a ride with Alamo to the front gate of Avis, mind you January it was brick weather. We had 4 children with us one of quick was only 1yrs old. When I called customer service all I got was that they’re doing construction at LGA ??. If that as the case then enterprise, Alamo, budget, all the hotel shuttles and the city buses wouldn’t have been able to come through either. They All came through just fine SEVERAL TIMES at that. AVIS NEEDS TO DO BETTER AND TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS BETTER, especially with their prices. This time around wasn’t so bad except we weren’t able to inspect the vehicle due to it being night time10pm. Next day we saw that there were scratches and that the bumper was previously involved in a fender bender. I immediately called customer service and reported it as well as took pics. The rep I spoke to told me that I could ho exchange it to if wanted to and even out me on hold to check the closes location. When I got to the location the guy said they had no vehicles available and I’d have to go to the airport. Unacceptable at all.

I did not get the model s tesla that was supposed to receive I got a Lincoln nautilus. I did not get a reduction in price even a tesla experience is a lot higher than a gas car. The wheel alignment was so bad an inexperienced driver would have crashed and the only reason I didn't return the car for a safer one is because I was only in town for less than 24hrs. I thought going with Avis would bring a more premium level of renting cars, I was wrong.

Late arrival (11:30 pm), ok to wait in line with others who do not even have reservations but I couldn’t get to ask the question if I was supposed to wait as a preferred customer. My name was not on the electronic board.

If I could give them a zero I would and attribute it to the shuttle driver who seemed like he was trying to kill us driving like a maniac from the rental location to the terminal. Not to mention the multiple damaged cars they tried to rent us.

Car was a dirty 2019 CRX with 75k miles on it.As a president Circle member it was very disappointing.I asked for a different car and they said nothing else was available

Non recommend at all! Really bad service! We had a very bad experience. Our scheduled time was 5:30 am but when we arrived there, we was told there were not available 7- seater SUVs/mini van for us and they first offered a 5- seater SUV but we need to have enough room for skis in the truck so we insisted we need a 7-seater SUV. The lady at the counter ( she was friendly but inefficient) told us she was contacting budget to get one from there, which should be very fast as budget was 3 minutes away. However, we waited for two hours and after we chased again and again, we finally got one 7 seater SUV at 7:30 am. And we immediately spotted there were some issue with the truck - it couldn’t be closed at all. We asked one staff to inspect/ fix it and the first thing he did was blaming us for not properly closing it ( we just got it and spotted the issue… ) until he tried again and again and found this was a real issue, he contacted the counter lady to give us another car. So we need to wait for people from budget to get us a car again… the new one we got didn’t have full fuel and we had to refuel it. It the end we left Avis at 8:30 am, almost three hours late.This ruined our plan. We plan to arrived the mountain by 10am but ended up being there at 2:30pm, while the snow resort closed at 4:00pmWill never choose Avis again
