Simple, good portions, good prices. The congee pulled me through the last of a cold I had lingering. Ultimate comfort food!

The neighborhood HK food spot. Really hits the spot when you are craving it. Like any other spot with good food, can't expect the service or atmosphere to be excellent. But the food, that's the highlight.

It's been so long since I have had cha chaan teng (HK style cafe), let alone during breakfast. Conveniently located near the Grand Ave - Newtown subway station, this place is fairly no frills but does the job done to satisfy the cravings. I went here with a friend around 9am on a Sunday and it was already a little busy, and all the tables were occupied by 9:30am, but the in and out flow of customers make it so most customers that arrive later on don't need to wait too long. It is just consistently busy with quick turnaround. This is also one of the places that accept credit card, which is a plus.We shared the Meal E (satay beef noodle soup, with instant noodle option) and Meal F (three types shredded meat with rice noodle), both of which we opted to get no sugar hot milk tea which is a slightly watered down HK milk tea (but can't really complain since it's complimentary). We also got the steamed leek and pork dumplings (which ended up pan fried, but that was a good accident since it was so flavorful and nicely fried) and dai pai dong style cheong fun. The satay beef noodle soup is super flavorful and the beef is marinated well. Mixing the beef into the soup makes it taste somewhat like a curry. The instant noodles were a bit on the softer side but it does the job to fill you up. The three types shredded meat with rice noodle is good but a bit too greasy. The leek and pork dumplings have generous portions of fillings, and it is a great deal for what you get. Similarly, the dai pai dong style cheong fun is very well worth the price, even if it is just soy sauce and egg rice noodle rolls. They are very flavorful, soft, and chewy! It was not too salty which is nice, but they could tone down on the oil a little bit.

Good popcorn chicken (must add sauce) and decent spam egg sandwich. Curry fish balls and curry beef fried rice were no good. I remember last time I got the cart noodles and they were so so, a bit on the blander side.

Ordered takeout for delivery for two beef brisket and wonton with noodle (one dry, one soup) - although both we got was literally the same. We also got a black pepper pork chop with rice. The beef brisket was tasty as was the plump wontons. I like that they separate the noodles and the soup from getting soggy. The black pepper pork chop rice dish was very small for the price. Taste-wise it was decent.

Food was good, would definitely eat again if I happened to pass by. It took 10 mins for my two breakfast orders to be ready.

Not the greatest taste but it’s ok. 3 stars just for the fact there is no restroom. They say to use next door laundromat but I witnessed the owner of the laundromat come in to tell the restaurant staff to stop telling their customers to use their restroom!

This spot is a good spot if you want to get close to traditional chinese food. Not chinese take out but has a variety from simple street food to dishes.

This place would be good if they didn’t completely break down during busy/rush hours. I’ve been here many times during off hours (early in the morning, or weekdays) and it was fine. Then, one weekend around 10am we called in to place an order on the phone and went 30 min later since that was the time quoted. The guy kept asking for an order number - we didn’t have one. We made the order on the phone and we even asked the person on the line if we should have an order number and they said no, “they’ll remember the order”. Waited another 10 min, the food comes out and I check the items. The noodle soup is missing the soup. So then I ask for the soup and the guy comes out, and just pours soup directly into the noodles. I told him that we requested the soup to be separated (they also charge an extra dollar for it to be separated). He just hands me 4 quarters and says sorry. Drove home and ate soft soggy noodles - never went back because I can make my own instant ramen, and the wait isn’t worth it for the other items, thanks. Based on the amount of angry customers also waiting that day, it seemed like they were way behind on orders.

I was very happy to found a spot that offer Hong Kong Cafe, knowing it is fast and it’s breakfast. But instead should be called Hong Kong restaurant because everything is done more than 35 mins (it is their norm).I ordered breakfast combo A & B. Breakfast A consist of spam or ham and egg noodles, with a hot drink. Breakfast B consists of ham and egg sandwich and lean beef and thousand year old egg congee, and a hot drink. it’s should be done in 10mins if I have cooked it myself. I knew I messed up coming here, when the lady before me order a French toast and had to wait with me for 25plus mins (exclude the time she waited before I came). When I ask the cashier what was taking so long, she told me it’s because there was no eggs. Remind you, I came at 9:15am. Your a business establishment, how can you not have enough eggs in stock? It’s fine even if you don’t have eggs, could have told me before hand and I could have changed the order.I was clearly disappointed with the wait time but what she said after and her attitude was what got me more disappointed. Her exact words was “you should’ve called before coming.”If I called, I should have woken up, made the call and drive there in total of 1hr to get my order. That is just Ridiculous, I should have gotten Spanish because it would be less than 30mins. But because I wanted to support Asian business, and I love chinese food I made the mistake. If you say your a Hong Kong style “cafe”, your food suppose to be done in 10-15mins. The attitude that I got from the store is it’s natural to wait 30-45mins a simple order. The reason I emphasize it should take less than 10 mins to make my order, ( congee would be the ONLY thing that takes time to cook, but in any and all restaurants congee was prepared the night before or in the early morning. The topping of the congee would just be add on. The noodle was instant noodles, all you have to do is boil water and grill 3 eggs and two slices of spam for the sandwich and my noodle. Then put two Hong Kong black tea bag and two slice of lemon in the drink.) This was my entire order!!!Never had I felt so angry about food in my life, because I am never a picky person. But the service was just horrible.
