Dr. Shulman was amazing, I lost my best friend Sunny but Dr. Shulman was so caring, informative and comforting during a very difficult time. Incredible doctor and Sunny could not have chosen a better place for her last hours with us. Thank you very much for everything. Before coming to Rhinebeck Animal Hospital we were turned away at other places, and you took us in even with a last minute emergency so thank you!

I can't say enough good things about this place and the kind, compassionate staff that work there, and upon reading a bad review about Dr. VanDemark, I felt the need to help set the record straight.Dr. VanDemark is the reason I won't even consider taking my pets anywhere else. He has provided wonderful care for our animals that I can only describe as having a vast knowledge of veterinary science tempered with the composure of an old country doctor and we've ran the full gauntlet of early life to end of life care with him. He's been honest as far as treatment pros and cons, what the chances typically are and whether or not the outcome is optimistic or not.We worked with him extensively as far as a weight loss plan for our little potato man who recently passed away (RIP Beowulf) and in a year got him down 5lbs to a much more appropriate weight, which, if he was a human he'd have been on "My 600lb life" or something. He was fascinated by the data we collected and took the information on what worked for us effectively saying "I tell a lot of people their pet needs to lose weight, and you're probably part of the 1/2 percent that listens".That was 3 years ago, and I'm happy to have had that time with the cat thanks in part to Dr. VanDemark because it might've been much shorter if we didn't act sooner. It's unfortunate when we lose a pet, and it sucks quite frankly, but I know for a fact my little guy had a GREAT life and was spoiled the whole time with people in his life that loved him or gave him excellent care like Dr. VanDemark. And to anyone who says it's pricey, you get what you pay for. When I first got my little guy I went the cheap route (I was younger) with an ASPCA neutering, later that day I was in Rhinebeck animal hospital having his spermator tube put back in because he ripped a stitch or it was done wrong or something. So basically, I thought I could get away with half paying for the job and I ended up spending what I would've spent if Rhinebeck Animal Hospital would've done it the first time, correctly, and wouldn't have had to call into work that day either. It's a great place, read this against a 1 star review and draw your own conclusions, or just bring your pet there and give them a shot. If it's hard to be a doctor in general, it's gotta be that much more difficult diagnosing patients who can't really communicate like humans but I genuinely feel they do the absolute best they can and I've never found them unsatisfactory.

I have been trying to call to book an appointment for WEEKS for a cat who needs to be dematted and sedated (only available at a vets office) and have gotten no answer and no response from voice messages left. When I was fed up enough to go in and make an appointment, the girl at the front desk was rude and refused to book an appointment. All over a simple sedated grooming. If you’re looking for good service don’t go here.

I wish I could give these guys more than 5 stars. If you want great human-quality care for your loved ones in the Hudson Valley, I truly believe this is the best place you can go to. Everyone there is extremely nice, the facility is very modern and well-staffed and well-equipped (nicer than some human hospitals) and Dr. Van Demark is exceedingly patient, kind and thorough. We brought our senior cat here a while back and Dr. Van Demark, did a thorough exam and took the time to answer ALL of my questions without making me feel rushed or dismissed. He also did blood testing that revealed some potentially concerning enzyme levels and he took a conservative approach by immediately prescribing temporary medication right away that fixed the issue and had us come back for a followup in a short time. Then, at another followup, they found a medical issue via an X-Ray that required specialist involvement. Dr. Van Demark did not hesitate to refer us to a specialist immediately and, sadly, we have not been back here since, due to the specialist continuing to handle and monitor our cat's care. What I really appreciate, aside from the thorough care at Rhinebeck, is that Dr. Van Demark showed that his sole focus and priority was the health of our cat, not whether or not he might lose our business to a specialty center by referring us to them. His only goal was to do anything that would help ensure that our cat had the best outcome possible. I can tell you, this quality is not as easy to find as one would hope when it comes to animal medicine.

UPDATE: 4/28Zaida will be euthanized today due to nephrotic kidney disease because of lyme.I suggest you do not take the risk and if you must- advocate for yourself and for your pet.I’d also like you to notice how this establishment is “never in the wrong”.Each negative review is countered by the business owner. Food for thought. And in response to the response I received.Even so the primary rule was cancer, Once ruled out why not test for Lyme?DR.VAN DEMARKWe brought our dog in to see Dr. Vandemark 3/22/2023 for swollen lymphnodes. They took samples from the lumps and ruled out 4 different"Oma's" as they were concerned it could be cancer. She was diagnosed with a "round cell tumor" (non cancerous thankfully) and was prescribed 2 medications. We gave her the medication as prescribed. The visit & meds prescribed was around $450?A couple weeks later we notice the lumps are back and she is limping- she is active so we thought that she played a bit to hard and gave it a day.The next day she is completely lame. I have to carry her in and out of the house to use the bathroom as she can't walk. I am now very concerned, scared and urge my fiance to take her to the Vet ER in Kingston. They ran a Lyme disease test right away. She was positive. Both practices have the same owner and even the Kingston vet said "why was she not tested for Lyme?"Mind you-l'm not a doctor/vet but if you Google right now"signs of Lyme disease in dogs" one of the first symptoms is swollen lymphnodes...Even according to his office note he states "lymphocytic inflammation may be seen with foreign body.... Eg: Insect bite"Why on earth would he not test for Lyme?Instead my dog was prescribed medication that would not help and was misdiagnosed. And we were charged.I respectfull requested some sort of reimbursement for at least the $200 of medication that wasn't needed. Something! And reiterated that this ER vet visit could have been avoided had he caught it prior! The response was "I'm sorry you feel that way"No ownership of maybe overlooking something- zeroWe will not be reimbursed - but we also will never bring an animal to him again nor allow our friends/family/colleagues.I cannot speak for the whole office but this was completely overlooked by Dr. Van Demark and I DO NOT recommend anybody bringing there canine for treatment to him.I spoke to numerous vets today and vet techs who were surprised she was not tested initially. She is now on the correct medication and we are hoping she can recover before the disease takes a toll on her.P.s the receptionist Sandy in Rhinebeck is nice and the Kingston office however was fabulous

Our dog did not receive care here, but I called their offices twice during our vacation in Rhinebeck. I spoke with Chris both times and he went above and beyond expectations in terms of customer service. The office was just about to close in both instances, but Chris gave me great advice on both calls. The second call was a true emergency and I was in a panic. He provided guidance and contact information for 24-hour animal hospitals, even helping me figure out the order in which I should call them based on proximity to where we were staying. This turned out to be important, as two were closed due to staffing shortages! He was just so kind and compassionate in a moment when he could have just said 'Sorry, we're closing in five.'

I’ve always found the vets & all staff here to be very sensitive to both pets’ health & pet parents’ financial situations - able to give honest advice in a straightforward manner without causing undue distress while delivering hard truths, which is no small feat.

I can not express how thankful we are to this team of vets and technicians. Our 11 year old female yellow lab was having a difficult time breathing and was lathargic. Our vet in Pine Plains said they were too busy to see her. I called Rhinebeck Animal Hospital, although we had never been there before, they told us to bring her right in. They took her immediately. She was critical. She was in sypsis shock, had pneumonia, low blood pressure, low oxygen level, and dehydrated. She stayed at the Hospital for 3 days getting IV fluids, antibiotics, and nebulizer treatments. The Technicians took time out of their day to send us pictures of our girl in the morning and at night. They kept us informed. She is home and working on getting better. We are so grateful to the staff at Rhinebeck Animal Hospital for the care they gave Bailey.

We have been bringing our kitties to RAH since 2014 when they saved one of them from a life-threatening urinary blockage with emergency surgery on Christmas Eve. Over the years the doctors and staff have continually gone above and beyond for us and our fur-family. The vets, techs, assistants, and folks in the office are all SO kind and compassionate. I can't imagine that their jobs are anywhere near easy, and yet they always make you feel like your pet is their only patient. Most recently one of our kitties needed to spend a couple of nights after becoming quite unwell, and the techs sent us pictures each morning and evening so that we knew how he was doing and we received comprehensive updates and diagnostics from the doctors daily. Everyone goes the extra mile and it's so comforting. We are continually grateful to have such stellar veterinary care available locally at RAH!

My cat had a bad urinary blockage and they were able to see him right away, unfortunately the catheter did not help him to unblock and we had to proceed with PU surgery. They were able to get a surgeon in the next day and PU surgery was successful! During his overnight stays at the hospital, the vet techs would text me daily with updates and pictures which was so thoughtful of them. Thank you to the vet techs and vets Dr. Porter, Dr. Gelernter, Dr. Shulman and others for saving his life! I would definitely recommend this hospital!

I had a small emergency with my dog yesterday and my normal vet wasn't around yesterday so my boss ( who's a client ) called RAH and they took me the same day.I was thoroughly impressed with the staff and (especially) Dr. Shulman. I've never had a Vet explain the issues so meticulously. His "bedside manner" cannot be rivaled. He put my worries to ease and welcomed me to RAH. In my experience the vets I've dealt with are somewhat gruff and a bit detached. Not Dr. Shulman. The staff members are amicable and made me feel appreciated.I'm so happy with RAH I'll be switching to them going forward.Thank you all so much for taking care of Riley.
