“We had such a wonderful evening at Hallockville Museum Farm for Dan’s Taste and Dan’s Papers’ final event of the summer! What a beautiful setting for an event, being out in the fields as the sun was setting made the whole night feel extra special. There were so many local vendors and businesses, with plenty of wine, spirits, and other drink options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The entertainment really added to the atmosphere too. Between the DJ, dancers in their beautiful costumes, and the live drums, there was such a fun energy throughout the evening. The food was definitely a highlight. There were so many things to sample, but my personal favorites were the oysters, Ecuadorian ceviche, and the peach bruschetta. I also loved the little tacos and the pie! It was such a great way to wrap up the summer. Hallockville is absolutely beautiful, and events like this are such a fun way to experience the farm while supporting local businesses and vendors. I’d definitely recommend checking out their upcoming events if you’re in the Riverhead/Long Island area!”

“My husband, our 2.5-year-old daughter, and I recently visited the Long Island Science Center, and we had such a wonderful experience. We actually tried to visit the week before, but unfortunately they were closed that day, so we were especially happy that we made it back and it was absolutely worth the visit. What I loved most about this science center is that it isn’t simply a place where children look at exhibits. It encourages them to touch, experiment, create, ask questions, and imagine what is possible. For a young child, that kind of experience is incredibly valuable. There were so many fun and educational things to explore. They have a wonderful Leonardo da Vinci area that introduces children to his inventions and way of thinking. There was also a magnetic wall that lets children experiment with magnets while learning about physics, a virtual reality experience, and a really interesting section on the history of video games...including vintage video game machines and comparisons showing how gaming technology has evolved. One of my daughter’s favorite activities was the interactive sandbox where she could create her own topography. Watching her experiment with the landscape and discover what happened when she changed things was exactly what I hope a science center can inspire in a child: curiosity without fear of getting something “wrong.” I also want to be honest that the center is relatively small, and a few things were temporarily unavailable because some materials were backordered. But honestly, that did not take away from our experience. If anything, knowing that this is a nonprofit organization made me appreciate the work behind the scenes even more. I also learned that the center had been working toward moving into another building, but unfortunately that deal fell through. They are now looking at expanding their availability, potentially including weekend hours, and will announce dates and updates on their website and social media. I really hope the community continues to support the Long Island Science Center. Places like this matter. Children need spaces where they can see that science isn’t just something in a textbook...it is something they can experience, play with, question, build, and eventually create themselves. I left thinking about how important it is for children to grow up believing, “I could invent that. I could build that. I could figure that out.” That’s the kind of confidence and imagination that can stay with a child for life. If you’re a parent, grandparent, educator, or anyone who believes in giving children opportunities to explore and discover, I highly recommend visiting and supporting this nonprofit. I would love to see this science center continue to grow and receive the funding and community support it deserves. Thank you to the team for creating a space where children can wonder, experiment, and believe in their own ability to create something new. We can’t wait to come back. ❤🔬🚀”
