Great experience! Alicia was SO wonderful and made the adoption process so easy, all went well and easy. And thanks to my girl’s foster Mom Jenni! I recommend using this shelter to find YOUR next fur baby. Here is the girl I adopted named Tarot who is now called Sunday! We are fabulous together!

What an amazing place!! The employees are so very nice despite all they see during their work hours. The volunteers are amazing!!! The shelter was very clean and the animals were attended to and being well cared for. Of course you fall in love over and over with each dog,cat and chicken(yes, there's a chicken for adoption) if I only had the room!!! So many pitbulls in cages breaks my heart to the point I wanna scream STOP BREEDING THEM!! In reality we all know it will never happen. Money talks and that's the bottom line. The most we can hope for is forcing people to admit they're not just part of the problem, they are the problem. Breeding is the problem with these beautiful pitbulls. The shelters are full, the employees are tired and the volunteers work from their heart to care for them. Not to mention the vets that offer services are awesome. So I personally want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO EVERY SINGLE DAY ??? You're AMAZING!!! The pictures are of my beautiful sweet spoiled girl who is also a rescue.

Me and my 17 year old came here today at 2:30 to surrender my 10 yr olds sick hamster which was dying for unknown reasons while she stood back home crying excessively, upon entering the building the place was EXTREMELY PACKED I MEAN PPL EVERYWHERE FOR ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND REASONS WE HAD NO SENSE OF DIRECTION NO ONE GREETING US THERE WERE NO SIGNS STATING ANYTHING TO GO ANYWHERE FOR ANYTHING, VOLUNTEERS RUNNING ALL AROUND LIKE CRAZY WALKING DOGS AND HELPING OTHER PPL BUT NOT US EVERY SINGLE TIME WE ASKED (& I am trying to keep this as professional as possible) luckily FOR US!!!!!, a very very kind lady THE ONLY LADY WHO WAS UP THERE HELPING EVERYONE DOING HER JOB CORRECTLY I GUESS took care of us helped us fill out paperwork to surrender our Dwarf hamster & even consoled us when we started crying too (she deserves a promotion and raise!!!!) told us after we was done with paperwork that “we can either wait with him to be grabbed & taken back or leave him and just go” my 6 yr old and 10 yr old were back home balling their eyes out why would I leave him alone we were extremely attached to him!!??, anywho we waited until now!!!!, 3:30 and ppl just kept passing by us like we was invisible or weren’t even there the lady called back for someone to come up and grab him 5 TIMES!!!!!, & STILL NO ONE EVEN ANSWERED HER I AM SO MORTIFIED AT THIS PLACE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!, IT WAS LIKE THE HAMSTER WAS OF NO IMPORTANCE OR NOT HIGH PRIORITIZED ENOUGH FOR THEM TO CARE or TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE US!!!!!!!!, listen this is exactly how I feel either do as great of a job as the lady who took care of us and everyone else there did, if not just quit or find something else to do seriously because you are in the wrong field the location is supposed to serve ANIMALS ALL ANIMALS NOT JUST CATS AND DOGS!!!!!. Oh and I forgot to mention how I asked over 10 different volunteers and employees for help and each and every one of them looked at me like I was some sort of alien!!!!???, this place is a disgrace!!!!!!, I HAD TO END UP LEAVING THE HAMSTER IN A BOX ON TOP OF THE COUNTER IN THE FRONT FOR SOMEONE TO HELP WITH AND I HOPE HE IS OKAY AND THEY DID FINALLY!!!!!!, WE HAD NO CHOICE!!!!!!, BUT TO JUST LEAVE HIM THERE LIKE NOTHING AND LEAVE BECAUSE I HAD TO BE AT WORK I WAS ALREADY HALF AN HOUR LATE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP US AND I JUST COULDN’T TAKE HIM SICK LIKE THAT AND LET HIM DIE IN OUR ARMS I am so horrified right now at this experience I pray I never have to deal with Rochester city animal services at Verona st ever again!!!!!!. And I PRAY THEY DIDNT LET THE HAMSTER DIE!!!!!!!!!.

My son adopted a dog named Marty pit bull mix. He was very sweet most of the time and he ended up biting 4 times pretty bad. Would not take him back. My son had to let him lose at 2 am and they took him in at 2:05. My son told them on the phone he had to bring him back cause he was biting and was getting very uncontrollable. They put him back up for adoption and I just found out he was adopted out. That is so wrong and I hope the people that have him can be aware somehow about it before he bites someone else. They don't care about how the dogs are and the safety of the public.

I was an intern here through a summer program. I didn’t do too much but this was one of the most calming jobs I’ve had so far. I got a chance to bond with animals before my shift and during my break. Of course, I had my own responsibilities- but they weren’t bad at all! Mostly stuff that I did at home already, with the occasional situational assistance here and there. All of the staff were really nice, even despite the pressure some of them faced when working with the delicate lives of our animals.I wish that my program let me stay longer. If I can, I’ll definitely apply here when I get the chance to.

We were helping to look for a missing dog, and stopped here to check. The staff was super friendly, and let us walk around and check for her. They do good work, and are always looking for donations, so if you have the means, please help.

We’ve adopted in the past from this shelter and our experience was a positive one. We had to put down our 10 year old feline and we went again to Verona to adopt. We found a 1 year old who seemed like a good fit for our home. Upon visiting with her she was a little hissy and scared but the young lady in the visiting room told us she’d been working with her and it’s just the environment she’s in. When we went to pick her up we were told she had an eye infection handed drops and that was it. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect what would happen next!! It was impossible to get the eye drops in. Also her new vet appointment was 6 weeks out as it was almost impossible to get a appointment. My wife had gotten a pretty bad bite requiring antibiotic trying to give her eye drops.. This poor girl was never properly socialized and it was so hard to get her to adapt . She would be so very sweet one moment then flip and bite and scratch you. Even any visitors to our home were greeted then clawed. So very sad that we were told nothing about her behavioral problems. Unfortunately we had to surrender her back to the shelter after 3 weeks of trying to get her to adjust. Our hearts are broken as she needed more then we knew how to give

I have a young cat from this shelter. Cat was well mannered, well fed, clean and affectionate. Obviously well cared for here. I had her spayed, staff were polite and concerned about the pets.
