Do Not patronize this business until ownership changes from Ken Sullivan. I understand that he has sold the business. I drove 65 miles for an instrument appraisal and ken Sullivan took a cursory glance at my instrument and declared that he was not familiar with the maker and that he couldn’t help me. Abhorrent customer service. The greeter at the shop did not introduce herself. I will never do business with Ken Sullivan. I did call ahead Forman appointment and told the shop who tue maker of my instrument is. Unacceptable in every way.

I have been playing cello for more than ten years now quite a lot, and I got my own cello from Sullivan Violins about six years ago. Not only is the quality of the instrument excellent, but the customer service is beyond this world. Prompting this review, just a couple of weeks ago I needed a bridge replacement. Being in college in Rochester I could not get to the shop directly (I do not have a car) but they were more than willing to come to campus for cello pickup and delive

Sullivan Violins was a joy to work with. After many years of playing the violin, I'd decided to fulfill a dream I've had to learn to play the cello. David at the shop patiently guided me every step of the way, from demonstrating the various instruments at the shop to helping me choose just the right bow and case. He went above and beyond, checking in throughout the process to see how I was faring with the bows I had out on trial or with the cello itself, and answering my many questions along the way. I absolutely love the instrument I ended up with. Huge thanks to David and Ken for helping me find the perfect cello for my budget and helping to launch this new adventure. I highly recommend Sullivan Violins!

I ordered a Adjustrite chair to help my lower back. The chair is wonderful, but apart from the product, I was impressed with the service I got from Sullivan Violins. They called me after getting my order, to make sure that they had all the correct information, and the chair came very quickly. I hope they treat all customers with so much care and consideration. They certainly get 5 stars from me!

I took my fathers violin in to be appraised a few years ago. Ken Sullivan admired the case but said that the violin had a crack in the soundboard so it would have to be sent to Cleveland for further appraisal. I agreed. However when the violin was returned and I was informed the crack need to be fixed before it could be appraised I noticed that original case was missing. It was replaced with a different case. When I enquired about the original case I was informed that they threw it away. To say I was shocked was an understatement. At the time I was too busy to follow up. I live in Buffalo NY and could not find the time to travel to Rochester to confront Ken Sullivan about this. For someone who admired the case and then told me he threw it away is the most insulting thing I have ever heard. Now that I have the time to think about this I feel compelled to write a review. I would never trust this company again.

I came in looking for a practice mute for a.... very cheap violin that has an equally cheap, excessively thick bridge that mutes wouldn't quite fit. Nonetheless, the staff went to great effort to help me determine which mute would work best for my instrument and situation.

I visited Sullivan Violins in December 2019 to look at upgrading my beginner/student model violin. Being an older new student to the violin, I was concerned that I hadn't been playing long enough and didn't know the right questions to ask and what to look for in an intermediate instrument. Carolyn and the staff immediately made me feel comfortable, answered my questions, and helped me pick out a violin and bow that suit me well! I had never been through a process like this, and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to visiting again, and I highly recommend Sullivan Violins!

Excellent shop! They are kind, super friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. Our instrument search took a long time, and they bent over backward to help us and figure out exactly what we were looking for. They are great about tinkering with the setup to optimize the sound. Thank you Sullivan!

My very good friend, a professional Cellist, played my wedding this summer in June. Unfortunately, he doesn't live in the area and due to complications of the situation (tour, short stint, expense, etc) he could not bring his Cello. Sullivan's provided fantastic services to ensure we were equipped for the big day. Fantastic business. Fantastic people. The most important, daily economic freedom you have is where to choose to spend your money; and now you know where to if you're in the market.

Wow. A gem of a business. We're new to the string instrument world but stepping into this store you suddenly have such a profound respect for the fine work that goes into these violins. Their staff are extremely patient and helpful. Their policies with renting and buying are more than generous - they're downright amazing. My daughter was allowed to try a few violins and bows out to help her decide which was best for her. You'd think she stepped into Olander's wizarding shop! She was absolutely smitten and delighted. We were so wrapped up in the great experience that we left her music books in the store and it unfortunately closed. We're almost 2 hours away. We were going to call the next business day to see if they could hold it for us until we could return at some point in the future, but they called us first and offered to mail them to us. Wha???? Who does that?
