This Avis and the people that work here provide absolutely zero customer service. I rented a car at the LGA location and they gave me an electric car which wasn’t a big deal. After driving the car for an hour or so the smell of cigarettes started coming thru whatever cleaning products they used to try to cover the smell. I called Avis and they told me to return to the nearest location and they would exchange the car for me. They told me the ISP location was nearby so I went there. I walked in to the ISP Avis with zero people in it and a full lot of cars ready for rental. I explained to the women behind the desk ( and the women next to her) what transpired. She said “ let me call my manager because he told us not to take any ev cars back”. I said that I didn’t care what kind of car it is I just needed a different one because by this point I couldn’t even drive the car. It smelled so bad I didn’t want to put my child in the car and have her come out smelling like cigarettes. After getting off the phone she said they couldn’t help me and that was that. They don’t take ev cars back in. She told me I have to go back to the location I rented it which was over an hour away without traffic. Then the other women behind the counter said “it’s your fault for renting an ev . Why would anyone ever rent and electric car ?” I didn’t have time to spend the entire day returning the car to the LGA location so it just parked the car my entire visit and I borrowed a family member’s car. I rent cars several times a month and often switch my days and drop off location. It’s usually not a big deal with other companies but AvIs is something else. Maybe they shouldn’t rent ev’s if they are going to put undocumented restrictions on them.

If you’re flying into MacArthur Airport (ISP) and need to rent a car for your stay, consider Avis. Very easy to rent, no shuttle service required, great rates, vehicles are in excellent shape and returns are easy even after hours. Fill out return slip, drop form and keys in box and walk right into the airport.

Car stunk of cigarette smoke but it was the only car of that class that they had so I had to accept it.

I am Avis Preferred Plus member and the location at MacArthur airport has gone down hill. I have been renting from them a couple of times a month for the past two years and been nothing but problems the last few times. Nobody at the desk they are all in the office and we are all waiting 15 minutes for someone to come out and they do with an attitude. The car windows are dirty, the cars smell like pot. I drop off my key in the box at 4am and they do not check the car in until 4:30pm the next day and charge me an additional day and they do not close out the rental and hold onto the deposit for the car. I have to avis customer service to have them close out the rental. I have to fight to get the money back from Avis. I have prove I didn't have the car. I have proof I was on a flight back to Florida at 6am and proof from Valet service at Orlando International I was picking up my own vehicle and customer service still has to investigate. There is no phone number directly to this location to speak with anyone. I will most likely switching to Enterprise when I fly into Islip.

Worst rental ever! Clerk was abrupt, no upgrade, vehicle had 54,000 miles & large dent in hatch back, my invoice was $24.00 incorrect. I would suggest investigating the management.

Ended up at this Avis after being provided a 30% full electric vehicle at JFK for our trip. I had requested via phone to swap the car as electric charging for hours on a 3 day vacation is not reasonable and their policy states the car will be given at 70% or more battery. After getting confirmation that I could swap via the 1800 number i arrived to this location. It was 2PM and there was not a soul to be seen. I was waiting at the counter while i could hear chit chat in the back office between co-workers. Then when someone finally came out they were very rude and were not willing to offer any assistance due to them not having electric chargers. They said they would charge me to tow the car back to JFK and I would also have to pay an increased rate. After leaving and calling again I was told to try another location. Which i did and I was met by the kindest individual at the Huntington Avis who was able to swap out the car with no questions and got me in a fully fueled larger vehicle. Thank you to him and the phone support agents, but the agents at the MacArthur airport were absolutely terrible and I would advise going with Enterprise at this specific airport.

Had to wait 3 hours for car, car was dirty when received. Not even the type of car we requested. Staff did not properly return car and I received message the rental was overdue. Worst rental experience I've ever had.

Matthew, the manager of this location, really understands customer service and has been a pleasure to rent a car from. The cars are almost always clean, filled with gas, and ready to pick up when I arrive. I rent from this location often and will continue to do so as long as Matthew is operating that facility.

As a preferred member, I pre-booked and prepaid for the rental car. Upon arrival, I was told there were no cars available. After an hour with no one in line but me, I was offered an electric car that was 38pct charged and told that I would need to go super charge it 30 mins away. This was unacceptable, finally they downgraded me to a smaller car without adjusting my invoice. I’ve never been happier to get out of there. The people behind the counter were nice but couldn’t really solve the problem. I was told this was the norm - Reservations made and no cars available. The car I received was dirty, had exterior damage and no-one there to report it to. Upon returning the car, the lady at the counter was very rude and unprofessional. Maybe offer a drop box for the return key so that no one else has to deal with her. I will not use Avis again, wish I would have seen the reviews before booking. I would have definitely selected another company.

I frequently use Avis for business and vacation and have always had a great experience. Upon arriving at this location, I noticed a line and a lot of people waiting around. When I reached the front of the line, I was told it would be about 15 minutes for my car to be ready. The customers around me laughed and said they'd be waiting for an hour. When I finally received my car, 45 minutes later, it was a mini van (I reserved a premium SUV several months out). I was happy just to get a vehicle, but I soon realized it was extremely dirty, and the back seats wouldn't go into a seating position. Several agents tried to fix it but were unsuccessful. I finally got a Toyota Highlander after an hour but was still charged for a premium SUV. This is unacceptable. To quote Seinfeld, "What's the point of making a reservation if you don't hold it?"

I am totally at a lost for words after today experience at Avis. I made reservation, drove 40 mins to be told they had no cars and could not honor my reservation . Am I wrong but isn't making reservations reserving your vehicle. I don't know I have rented with Avis for 10 yrs and I'm truly considering never using them ahsin.

The worst company in the world! We waited for 2 hours and they couldn't or wouldn't give us a car which we pre paid for and ordered weeks ago. They wouldn't refund me my money, wouldn't call the manager or have the manager call me. I will never use this car company again
