“They say first impressions are everything. South Shore Animal Hospital has gained my trust. I am a new dog owner with a currently 6 month old Black Lab Mix named Luke. I had been looking to get established with a Vet and had been doing some research. But when Luke had some issues that needed attention I started frantically calling places to be met with a lot of rudeness and no availability. I found South Shore and booked an appointment online for the soonest available which was 3 days later. I called up and explained the situation and they were happy to squeeze me in the same day on a Saturday. Now I can’t say if I got lucky or if they did me a favor but I appreciated them getting in a new customer same day on a Saturday. The Staff were kind and were patient with Luke as he is still a puppy and made him feel comfortable at his first visit. Their pricing seems reasonable although I did not need anything major but the exam fee seemed okay. They answered all my questions as a new dog owner would have. I’m glad I found them and will consider bringing in our cat Pumpkin in as well as needed. Thank you South Shore Animal Hospital. We will see you again”

“I can't begin to express how grateful I am for this place. 13 years ago, I was referred here by a friend. I would travel from Freeport to East Norwich. There were plenty of good vets by me on the south shore but nothing compared to the staff at Animal General. I then moved to Huntington and I still took the trip. I have 2 dogs but as my one dog got older, we had to frequent the vet more. They always took such good care of me and my girl. Dr. Perrone and Dr. Leonhardt are absolutely amazing at what they do- not only are they great with pets but they always knew how to explain things in a way which I would understand. They are extremely thorough and helpful. The ladies are the front desk are truly the best- Haley, Donna, Maeve, and Sharon. I spoke to these women daily when my dog was at the end of her life and they were always so understanding and so helpful. Eventually, I will get another pup as a friend for my remaining dog and when I do I will still take the 30 mile round trip to this place.”

“Dr. Wallach is truly the vet everyone needs. He takes his time and speaks to you before and after seeing your pet and goes over diagnosis and prognosis in so much detail. I've transferred care from another vet in the area and have never looked back since! My dog Coco was in pain due to unknown causes and Dr. Wallach has been wonderful. “I am really glad I made the move from where I previously took my pets to PVMG (formerly CVA). The staff is compassionate and caring, which is incredibly important to a pet parent. They are professional and considerate and remember you. It seems this is true for most of the staff at their other locations, even over the phone, helping you make appointments at another clinic to get your pet in if they need more immediate service.
I would like to single out Dr. Frank DeFeis, who is one of the best veterinary doctors I have been to in the 30 years I have been a pet parent. He has treated three of my cats. One was originally diagnosed by two other doctors with cancer due to her nasal bleeding. Because I couldn't afford certain high-priced diagnostics (although the average market price for radiology across NYC vet clinics), he patiently tried various avenues with medicine and tests over a three-month period, and eventually, he found it was a bacterial infection, and cured it. My other cat, who does indeed have bone cancer, has been treated by Dr. DeFeis with love, kindness, and patience to keep him alive with quality of life while explaining everything along the way to me (and dealt with my quasi-hysteria over it). His use of herbology and acupuncture as well as traditional medicine has allowed me more time with my cat, and he has gone above and beyond to help a pet parent with anticipatory grief.
I cannot recommend him highly enough, and the office staff at both the Bayside site and the Forest Hills location have been incredibly compassionate. Thank you.
UPDATE:
I am also very grateful to Dr. Ottenbreit, who is also incredibly kind, caring and knowledgeable. She took over my pets' care when Dr. DeFeis moved to the main location. Her and Muhammad the main Vet Tech/Nurse (Veterinarian Reaident??) and the whole tean made my terminal cat's transition into spirit as loving and good a send off as one would hope. We put him to sleep yesterday, which is two months after my initial post. The staff were rooting for me and my pet family, and the tender care they gave us is forever appreciated.

“The best vet experience. Dr Landefeld is so sweet and a soothing presence with cats. Alivia, the assistant vet helping was also so sweet and kind to my cat. A very low key and comfortable office. If your cat struggled at vets because of how chaotic they can be especially with barking dogs or a ton of other pets there, this is the place for you”
