S. Peak was able to get me in for an emergency visit shortly after I called. Both the tech and Dr. Maucher were caring and professional with my cat.

My sweet puppy got into poison. I called poison control and they told me i needed to give him Vit K I called so many places and no one had it. I finally call south peak and they said they had it but he would need a vet visit and it was late in the day 3:30 and they could see me tomorrow.
I then called Marble Town vet in stone ridge and they told me they had it and would wait for me even after they closed

Dr. Maucher is very competent and great with my pet. She diagnosed his yeast infection quickly, cleaned his ears thoroughly. My only complaint is that things were a tad more expensive than I expected. Still grateful my dog got the excellent care he needed.

I have had some nice vets at this practice (Dr. Ellman put my mom's cat to sleep last winter and was compassionate - we also saw a very sweet younger vet who I do not think is there any longer) but the prices have really risen with the change to being a Heart & Paw practice.
My family has been bringing our cats to Southpeak since I was a kid so I've been a client for decades and it's really changed a lot. There seem to be a lot of extra charges - one vet suggested that we try a probiotic powder and I said "Could we try a sample before I buy a bunch of it"? They gave me a tiny paper envelope of it at the desk and charged me something like $40 for it!
We were also rather surprised to be charged a $20 fee for the vet to spend a minute removing a small dreadlock from one of our cats earlier this week at an annual check up. Given that we were already spending at least $375 on the visit between our two cats and their combined 4 vaccinations, this charge felt nickel and dime-y especially since it was so quick and easy to do and is something other vets have done for us (free of charge!) in the past.
Last fall, I had to bring one of my cats in to be sedated to remove a whole bunch of dreadlocks (which cost hundreds of dollars, of course) and I was very disappointed by their failure to communicate with me during the day. They were supposed to call once she woke up but did not. I finally called to check in and the person who answered the phone blithely said she'd been awake for a long time and I could come get her. When I got there, she was sitting in a pool of her own urine because she'd been stuck in her carrier for so many hours. It felt pretty crappy.
I know the vet business is tough and that finances are often a challenge for them but I don't feel like the prices reflect the service they're providing or that they honor the spirit of the former South Peak practice's commitment to caring for animals.
To be honest, if my cats were not so freaked out by being in the car and this place were not located so close to my house, I'd go somewhere else. And if they should ever develop problems, I doubt we will be able to afford to take them there and would need to seek something more affordable.

I have seen Dr Kilmer in July and when I came for another visit in sept I saw Dr Maucher they were both great with Jade. I love the staff at south peak because they are friendly and wonderful the pets. They make sure you understand what is going on with your pet before you leave there.
Great Job
