this review is specific to the salon portion of ulta: do not go here. i have experience with doing my own hair many years ago. after growing out my (virgin, strong, brown) hair to the longest it's ever been (!) i decided i wanted a change. the conversation went really well with the stylist, however: the outcome was not what i asked for and my hair is completely dead (breaking off, extremely stretchy when wet, horrifying). i understand some damage is expected, but the stylist was extremely careless with my hair. we discussed a warm, honey blonde and i left with white, chunky highlights (it was not toned, it was lightened to this level, which is ridiculous).
in addition, my stylist was not supported by this company. she had two appointments after me and was running behind on everything. she was alone the majority of the day. one of the managers came over to discuss the schedule and my appointment time slot as if i wasn't there, i smiled and attempted to make small talk without getting much of a reply. it all felt pretty rude.
i have attempted to reach out to the salon manager multiple times. i received one initial voicemail but my last two attempts, i have not received a call back. my stylist was very kind and personable, but at this point, i may need to shave my head. photo was taken immediately after the appointment, my hair used to have ringlets.

It was my 18th birthday so I decided I wanted a little change, I was walking through Ulta when a stylist asked if I needed help. I didn’t know there was a salone in there. I have difficult, fine, wavy hair so I was a bit skeptical but I felt I could trust her, she had an inviting personality. I did a full head of highlights with face framing layers for the haircut. I absolutely loved the outcome.

I was able to book a hair appointment with Madi for the Salon part of Ulta, she did a really great job with my color and just was a pleasure to have as a stylist!!!!

I visited the Schenectady Ulta Beauty Hair Salon today for the first time and was so impressed with the Stylist that provided me with THE BEST color and cut I’ve had in years! Mona was extremely knowledgeable about hair coloring and took the time before she did anything, to talk to me and really understand what I wanted and more importantly, what I didn’t want. Not only was she an expert colorist, she gave me a great cut that was so flattering. I am very grateful to have found Mona and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic cut and color!! The other bonus of getting my hair done at the Ulta Salon, when I was finished I grabbed my fave mascara on the way out!

I want to take a moment and commend Katie at the Niskayuna store!! I stopped in looking for some new makeup and had no idea what I was looking for just some ideas of what I thought might be good for my skin type and what I wanted to achieve for my particular skin. Katie not only helped me but she took her time and grabbed a few different products to try on me . She made it such a pleasant experience and she was so patient and kind.. she definitely is an asset working for this company. They are very lucky to have her.. Thank you so much Katie .!! will definitely be back. ❤️
