I am sad to give this review. I have been banking with M&T for many years; however, my recent experience has been awful. There was a major change with my mortgage account and when I attempted to get information on this I was shut down at every turn. I have made multiple calls to resolve this issue with no luck. I have been told that someone will call me back to help but have been waiting for weeks. I have called backed but still nothing.
Please note - the issue with my mortgage is NOT that it is past due. My mortgage current. The issue is regarding the shortage amount due to property taxes and insurance changes. As well as an unaccounted for payment I made directly into my escrow account. Sad that there is just never anyone available to discuss your concerns with the biggest investment - your home.

I don't normally like to go out of my way to leave negative reviews, especially when it's no fault of the staff who have been nothing but friendly and respectful, this is about M&T as a whole and this just happens to be the branch closest to me so unfortunately they get the flack.
M&T loans are aggressively front loaded with interest to the point that the first eight months I've paid on my new auto loan throwing $80-100 extra per payment I've paid about $1738 in interest while in the same interval in time I've only paid $2993 in principal. These are subprime level ratio's despite financing the car almost a full point below prime at the time.
Additionally, they wont let you just pay money into principal, if you pay an addition amount, your following payment with show a reduced amount and that money wont really go to principal unless you pay another regular payment or greater.
I was going to wait till I had reached a full year on the loan before refinancing it but I'm essentially just setting money on fire at this point. There is no early pay off penalty thankfully, but I am done with this bank. I'm refinancing with my bank at 2.29% lower interest rate and substantially less offensive amortization.
Heed this as a warning, with the negative equity crisis currently going on in our economy, do not finance with this bank if you plan on just making the minimum payment and getting a new car in a few years. You'll be unable to without rolling negative equity from the first vehicle.

Attempted to make a simple transfer, along with transaction which did involve onsite visit. Unable to accomplish any of it at this branch. Visited Greece branch with POA to complete transaction. POA and investment advisor tried to intervene at Spencerport branch to no avail. 40+ year customer.

They have been very pleasant and helpful. nothing negative to say. kindness means a lot now days as most businesses are not respectful of the people who keep them paid and fed. I'm glad there is a good bank close to home. Alexandrea is a very good representative and professional. It was easy doing business there. Thank you.

Unbelievable mistreatment. I recently made a transfer into my checking and went to withdrawal the money the same day and was told that it " wasnt an option." This is without being given a clear answer or being treated respectfully...in fact, the employees, namely the manager Melissa, looked at me as a "non credible person" based on my appearance. After a quick call to another manager that was familiar with our business, they reluctantly "verified me" and allowed the withdrawal. They called the situation "weird" and gave short, rudely toned answers the whole time. Complaints were submitted. Avoid at all costs.

First upon entering, everything is clean and well kept. I'm always pleasantly greeted by as least 1 of the branches representatives. Personable as well. An effort is made, by all, to remember you by name. This branch, in particular, is my full service bank. âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸
