This is a work in progress, as the old house that housed the center is closed and to be demolished. Unfortunate, as the house is historic and has much to recommend it. They are in the process of constructing the new center and there are walking trails leading to the Lake, bluff and all around. I wish the old building could remainnthough.

Nice trails, but the bugs are outrageous. Bring plenty of bug spray, you’ll need it all.Trails are generally kept up very well. Any trail that runs by the swampy area south of the main building is a feeding zone for mosquitoes. The main building is under construction and will be pretty impressive when completed.Trails are marked pretty well and the maps are good. You might want to bring a marker to keep track of where you’ve been.

A great place! We came here while camping at a nearby campground. We enjoyed walking on several of the trails and birding. The trails are great for all ages. I’d love to catch one of their programs sometime!

Lots to take from lake views of the best sunsets in the world to the meadows and ponds to watch all the wildlife enjoying nature. Many trails - most to long for me but great for the outdoors hiking type.

We took our dogs for a walk today at the Sterling Nature Center. There is some remodeling going on, but they have done a nice job with temporary parking and signage. The trails are in nice condition. The views of the lake and rookery were beautiful. A cool, sunny, and windless weather day made it even better.

Absolutely love that this gem is so close to my home. My family, friends and I always enjoy coming here weather it's for a hike, swimming, or geocaching. Beautiful scenery for pictures as well. It's my go to place when I need to destress or just be... Thank you for keeping this place so pure and accessible!

Wonderful place to spend an afternoon hanging out by the shores of Lake Ontario. There are beautiful viewpoints and cliffs overlooking the lake, plus you can get right down to and wade in the water on a hot summer day. There is a nice but short trail system that goes through the woods and bluffs, and has a large Great Blue Heron rookery you can watch them nest in the early spring and summer. As of 2022 they are doing construction building a new visitor center and museum so I'm sure it'll be wonderful when it opens next year.

Quiet and beautiful. Like a (mostly) hidden gem. They were building what looked like a parking area and who knows what else, so I’m afraid they’re going to ruin the exclusiveness of it by making it a park that you must pay to get into to. We shall see. But the trails were nice and the beach was nice. Rocky in terrain with a little sand. I hope it stays how it is.

This is a magical wonderful place. There is one problem why I'm not giving it five stars. They are getting some really strange folks there. Kind of like Woodstock people or some others that look like they were into the occult meeting on the beach. I'm glad they are putting in a new visitor center and stuff because they need some people in charge there. Someone overseeing what's going on. People are always in the water and have even seen someone surfing despite no swimming signs. I'm sure there is someone that knows what's really going on there but I certainly don't. And it makes me a bit uneasy.

The parking lot is under construction right now but don't let that stop you from visiting! Beautiful trails through the woods and along the lake. The bluffs are super neat! Definitely worth a day trip to the nature center. Stop by fair haven state park after if you want to spend time at a nice Sandy beach

Heron rookery was amazing. We saw lots of turtles and heard lots of bullfrogs. But a warning about the shoreline trail ... it's almost impassable due to fallen trees and rock slides. The connection to the trail back to the nature center is gone. We had to scramble up a cliff. A new nature center is being built, the old one was closed on our visit. Still some neat views over the lake, especially at sunset. We'd like to return once the new building is complete.

I took advantage of a rare, warm December day to visit here for my first time. I now have a new place to go back to for future sunset pictures and general exploration.
